Senior Claims Specialist

The Senior Claims Specialist reports directly to the Director of Risk Management. The role oversees and monitors the timely response and proper handling of General Liability, Auto and Property claims on behalf of Superior Grocers, including attendance at Small Claims court matters as required. The specialist has the authority to make settlement decisions within a pre‑determined range and is responsible for providing timely feedback and necessary documentation to insurance companies, TPA, defense counsel, and corporate staff. Daily Job Duties Respond promptly to incoming claims and monitor ongoing claims. Conduct claim investigations as needed, including telephone and on‑site investigations, employee and customer interviews, and referrals to outside vendors. Review and oversee new and existing customer‑related claims, ensuring Accident Reports and supporting documentation are completed timely and objectively. Assist with determination of liability and appropriate defense tactics, ensure timely logging of all new claims, and report to the Insurance Carrier under guidance from the Director of Risk Management. Manage legacy customer claims continuously, utilizing TPA website/database or internal tracking system to review status, approve reserves, and maintain communication with adjusters. Coordinate employee statements, internal/external investigations, video analysis, and provide employee information as required. When claims are sent to attorneys, perform the same duties and pass instructions to defense attorneys. Prepare monthly status reports as requested, calendar hearings, mediation, or settlement conferences. Prepare the Defense Attorney assignment in coordination with the Director of Risk Management. Set up Sweep Trax for new stores. Weekly Job Duties Maintain customer claim files in order by inspecting the database in Excel and physical claim files, reviewing carrier, TPA and attorney billing, and updating files. Conduct store inspections as instructed by the Director of Risk Management to inspect for adverse liability conditions and/or store operations. Report findings and solutions to management; report any sweep compliance issues. Conduct Porter inspections, review porter schedules, and provide porter training on scanner use and sweep procedures. Maintain the Insurance Certificate Program, obtaining certificates from vendors and contractors as needed and handling requests. Handle General Liability, Auto, and Property insurance needs, adding new vehicles and stores as instructed. Monthly Job Duties Generate monthly reports on the frequency and location of customer claims, analyze results, and recommend preventative measures to store management. Review monthly billing and present to the Director of Risk Management, checking figures and ensuring appropriate reimbursement. Perform monthly store inspections as needed. Quarterly Job Duties Prepare quarter‑end reports similar to monthly reports. Yearly Job Duties Assist with General Liability, Auto, and Property insurance renewal (administrative duties only). Job Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in business preferred. Attendance at insurance seminars and classes emphasizing insurance concepts, premises liability, and related torts. Experience At least 5 years of work experience in the field if no Bachelor’s degree. Knowledge Working knowledge of Excel and Word. Skills & Ability Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi‑task. Bilingual (Spanish and English) is helpful but not mandatory. Salary Range: $80,000 – $95,000 annually Superior Grocers is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
