Medical Laboratory Scientist

Pay Range: $30hr - $40hr

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing laboratory testing, analyzing specimens, reviewing and releasing test results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory requirements. This role supports accurate diagnostic testing while maintaining quality, safety, and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record maintenance.
• Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures as defined in department SOPs.
• Review, verify, and release test results.
• Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety guidelines.
• Adhere to quality control policies and document quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
• Follow established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance limits.
• Identify issues affecting test performance or reporting and take corrective action or notify senior staff.
• Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established specifications.
• Report STAT or critical results to clients per department procedures.
• Respond to inquiries from customers or laboratory personnel when applicable.
• Maintain complete records of all testing performed on-site.
• Maintain the general appearance and organization of the department.
• Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
• Review and train on new procedures as required.
• Attend department meetings and training or educational sessions.
• Participate in safety training and maintain knowledge of safety manuals and equipment.
• Support government or regulatory inspections when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirement/Must Have:

• Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing principles.
• Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices.
• Familiarity with all areas of the clinical laboratory.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple systems.
• Ability to manage multiple procedures and establish work priorities.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection.

Experience:

• One year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience for candidates with a BS or BA in Chemistry or Biology.

Qualification And Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology preferred.
• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or equivalent qualification under applicable regulations.
• Eligibility for or possession of national certification as MT or MLT from a recognized organization.
