Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the ACFS Director or Supervisor, coordinate the Adventure Youth Program serving tribal youth of various ages. All ACFS staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws. This is a grant-funded position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with tribal community departments, agencies and staff to plan and implement programs.
• Attend all trainings for Project Venture implementation.
• Facilitate classroom lessons from Project Venture curriculum.
• Plan and conduct adventure challenges for tribal youth.
• Plan and implement one week summer camp for tribal youth.
• Design and implement community service projects.
• Keep all records on program and complete all reporting requirements of the Department of Justice.
• Carry out activities as described in the original grant application according to the approved timeline.
• Attend all mandatory trainings and technical assistance meetings sponsored by funder and technical assistance providers.
• Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with ACFS policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
• Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

• Contact with ACFS staff, tribal youth, tribal departments and community members/organization to develop collaborate working relations for the benefit of the community.
• Contact with federal or other outside agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Public Administration or related field.
• Three years of related experience required.
• Experience working with youth.
• Experience with Native American communities.
• Must be able to effectively communicate and have good computer skills.
• Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with strategic planning and coordinating collaborative projects.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

• Obtain HIPAA certification within five business days of hire.
• Must have a valid Michigan Drivers License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
• Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of applicable Tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
• Knowledge of Social Services practices and programs.
• Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act, Child Protection Teams, and State and Federal programs and their codes/laws.
• Knowledge of children's code, State and Federal by-laws pertaining to children.
• Skill in human relations as required working with children/youth and families.
• Must have skills in operating various word-processing, digital storytelling, and database software programs.
• Stay updated on trainings that will benefit the youth, families and communities
• Skill in supervising, training and evaluating assigned staff.
• Skill in treating clients and clients families with tact, courtesy, and respect.
• Skill in preparing, reviewing and analyzing operational and financial reports.
• Skill in time management, organization and follow-through.
• Ability to represent organization in a professional manner, adhering to confidentiality policies, building respect and confidence in the community.
• Ability to work under heavy stress situations.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.

• Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Work Environment:

• Normal office or outdoor environment.
• Mandated reporting of abuse and neglect can lead to personal challenges with exposure to victims of abuse.
• Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
• May include stressful situations and potential hazards when dealing with youth who are high risk.
• Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
• Travel may be required.
