Knead Love Bakery is a gluten-free bakery dedicated to using organic, regional grains in naturally leavened breads, bagels, and treats. We combine traditional sourdough methods with modern gluten-free baking to make food with integrity — because gluten-free treats can be just as flavorful and satisfying as any traditional bread or pastry. We sell year-round at the GrowNYC Greenmarket in Manhattan and Brooklyn, ship nationwide, and wholesale to select retailers.

We're seeking an experienced Head Baker to lead daily operations at our commissary bakery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of experience in a bakery or commercial kitchen, with strong preference given to those with production baking experience — a background in gluten-free baking is not required, we'll train you on our methods.

As Head Baker, you'll be part of a close-knit team where your input shapes how we work. We're expanding into new markets, and this role is an opportunity to grow with us and help lead that next chapter. We care about taking care of our team just as much as we care about the food we bake and the local farmers we source from.

Schedule

• Full time (40 hours/week)
• Shift hours: 6am–2pm, Monday–Friday

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily bakery operations, ensuring consistent quality, food safety, and compliance with production standards
• Lead, train, and mentor bakery staff, setting daily priorities and delegating tasks to keep production on schedule
• Uphold a clean, organized, and safe kitchen that meets all health code and sanitation standards
• Foster open communication and teamwork to keep the bakery running smoothly
• Oversee recipe development and testing for new seasonal items or product improvements
• Collaborate with ownership on production planning to meet demand across Greenmarket, wholesale, and shipping channels
• Manage inventory, ordering, and food costs to minimize waste and keep production running smoothly
• Prepare and mix doughs and execute baking tasks in accordance with established recipes

Skills & Requirements

• 4+ years of professional baking experience
• At least 1 year of team leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Valid NYC food handler's permit
• Ability to stand for a full shift and lift 50+ lbs as needed
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States

Nice to Have

• Knowledge/experience with vegan or gluten-free baking
• Interest in maintaining sourdough starters, preferments, and naturally leavened breads
• Basic Spanish communication skills
