Application must be completed in full.Position Summary:Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston equipment and supporting equipment.Key Responsibilities/Duties:Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including but not limited to container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignmentUtilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve informationProvide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair and work order requestsUse hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasksFor yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systemsRead and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staffWork required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hoursWork a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisorAct in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)Perform other duties as required Education/Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent required4+ years related mechanic experience requiredKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:Knowledge diagnostics and repairKnowledge of mechanicsKnowledge of automotive and heavy-duty equipment repair and maintenanceKnowledge of safety policies and proceduresKnowledge of safety precautions concerning occupational hazardsAbility to work with othersAbility to pay attention to detailAbility to operate a forkliftA current, valid Texas driver's license is requiredA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employmentKey Competencies Required:Effective communicationPragmatic Decision MakingQuality OrientationSafetyTechnical/Professional Knowledge and SkillsThis work site location of this job is:Barbours Cut MaintenanceWork Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
