Student Conduct Specialist

$22.13 per hour

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Student Conduct Specialist is a professional staff member dedicated to helping undergraduate, graduate and professional students meet community expectations and succeed at Case Western Reserve University. In consultation with the Associate Director, the Student Conduct Specialist investigates possible violations of the Student Code of Conduct and the Undergraduate Academic Integrity Policy. The Student Conduct Specialist will gather and consider information, determine responsibility for possible violations and apply consistent outcomes for students. This position works to educate the university community on student policy compliance and expectations. The Student Conduct Specialist is a role model for students and represents the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and university in a positive and professional manner. Essential Functions Investigate potential university policy violations by students related specifically to the university Student Code of Conduct and Undergraduate Academic Integrity policy. This includes gathering and reviewing initial reports, meeting with involved community members, organizing and assessing information to determine if a policy violation occurred, and helping students make good decisions. Present policy violation cases to the Associate Director for consultation and evaluation. (30%) Maintain timely, detailed, and accurate records of cases and other information about students. This includes hard copy documents as well as information stored in a secure database. (15%) Ensure student completion of imposed conduct and academic integrity sanctions. Monitor completion of sanctions, follow up with students who fail to complete sanctions and work with other university offices to ensure students adequately complete assigned sanctions. (10%) Meet with students with first-time Academic Integrity violations to discuss their violation and review the steps to completing the Ethics Tutorial sanction. (10%) Meet with students engaging in low-level behavioral concerns that may not rise to being code of conduct violations but are beginning to become concerning or disruptive. (10%) Nonessential Functions Represent the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at university events and presentations including RA training and Orientation sessions. (5%) Provide support to Associate Director and/or Assistant Director in advising at least one student organization dedicated to academic integrity or student conduct. These students serve as members of hearing panels and provide education to the university community related to academic integrity and general conduct expectations. (5%) Participate and assist with the selection and training of student, staff and faculty volunteers. Assist with on-going development for volunteers and the university community. (5%) Be a visible and positive presence on campus representing the office. (2%) Assist with the annual review of departmental documents and publications such as student letters, conduct sanction language, and the department website. (2%) Represent the office by participating in division and university-wide committees. (2%) Serve as a general resource for students to help them succeed at the university. (2%) Perform other duties as assigned. (2%)

CONTACTS

Students: Daily contact with undergraduate, graduate and professional students regarding conduct and academic integrity issues, answering questions, providing guidance, and working with volunteers. Department: Daily contact with Associate Dean, Associate Director, Assistant Director, and Department Assistant. Regular contact with other offices including Residence Life, Greek Life, University Health and Counseling, and Dean of Students Office. Occasional contact with other division offices as part of investigations or to support students. University: Regular contact with Office of Undergraduate Studies, Office of Equity, Office of General Counsel and university Police. Occasional contact with graduate and professional schools. Occasional contact with other faculty, staff, and community members as part of investigations or to better support students. External: Occasional contact with professional organizations for networking and professional development. Occasional contact with the surrounding community to address student concerns. Occasional contact with student conduct professionals at other institutions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have any supervisory responsibility. Qualifications Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience working directly with college students required. Experience with student conduct, academic integrity or other kinds of student accountability preferred. Experience including FERPA, Title IX, marketing, facilitating trainings and database administration a plus. Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Higher education, student affairs or related field preferred. Required Skills Ability to demonstrate successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a varied university community. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational skills and timeliness. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to coordinate conduct processes in a consistent, fair and developmental manner. Serve as a general resource for students to help them succeed at the university. Serve as a visible and positive presence on campus representing the office. Ability to maintain confidentiality; familiarity with FERPA. Experience with general office technology and software. Ability to meet consistent attendance. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. Willingness to learn and work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies in coordination with supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

General office environment. Regular travel to other buildings on campus. Occasional travel off campus. This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
