Clinical Psychologist II - Correctional Health Services
$350 per monthCounty of Orange
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST II, Correctional Health Services Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization. Premium Pay Bilingual pay: Qualified employees who meet the criteria receive an additional $0.70 per hour for all hours paid. Night Shift Differential pay: Employees assigned to a night shift receive a differential for each hour actually worked on the assigned night shift. Pay rate is determined by assigned shift hours. Jail Supplement pay: Employees permanently assigned to the Central Jail/Intake/Release Center (including Correctional Medical Services), Theo Lacy Branch Jail or James Musick Facility receive an additional $1.50 per hour for all paid hours. Board Certification pay: Employees assigned on a regular, full-time basis who are Board Certified receive the equivalent of $350 monthly. Other additional premium pays may apply as described in the official remuneration policy. The Opportunity The County of Orange Health Care Agency is seeking a licensed Clinical Psychologist to provide comprehensive diagnostic clinical mental health evaluations and participate in a psychotherapeutic program for severely and persistently mentally ill clients within the Orange County Jail system. Responsibilities Assess clients for current level of functioning and psychiatric history. Provide psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals and groups with a wide range of psychological and substance use disorders. Select, administer, score and interpret a variety of objective and projective tests. Conduct psychological research and analyze statistical data relating to Adult CHS program outcomes. Participate in mental health quality management to assist in program evaluation and process improvement. Provide mental health training seminars/presentations and didactic learning. Assist in complex case analysis and guide other clinical staff regarding evidence‑based practices. Provide clinical supervision to Clinical Psychologist I, Doctorate Practicum Students and Interns. Desirable Qualifications and Core Competencies Technical Expertise and Knowledge Title 15 Minimum Standards for Local Adult Facilities (CCR), ICE, Board of State and Community Corrections, and other relevant standards. Jail security policies and willingness to seek supervision if uncertain. HIPAA guidelines. Psychological testing and assessments for diagnosis, treatment and prognoses. Gathering, evaluating and interpreting psychological and statistical data. Administering discharge planning and case management for the mentally ill and substance‑using clients. Expertise in mental health and substance use diagnoses, symptoms and behaviors. Applying evidence‑based practices to reduce relapse and recidivism. Administering latest treatment protocols. Knowledge of Lanterman‑Petris‑Short Act laws and conservation mandates. Conducting evaluations for LPS and Murphy conservatorship. Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office suite. Analysis and Critical Thinking Independent regulatory work with confidentiality. Analyzing factors contributing to health problems and recidivism. Making effective decisions impacting client care. Responding to mental health emergencies. Providing calm and professional care in acute settings. Establishing clinical boundaries and appropriate limits. Rapid and accurate assessment of presenting symptoms and behaviors. Identifying external factors affecting client functioning and referring appropriately. Judgment to prevent injury, loss, or public relations issues. Communication and Collaboration Effective oral and written communication. Interviewing skills and techniques with clients. Clear discussion of clinical cases and decisions with health staff and county agencies. Engaging clients in discharge planning and self‑care planning. Collaboration with law enforcement, families, court personnel, public health agencies and hospitals. Flexibility and Safety Positive attitude and stress management. Reliability and flexibility for 24/7 duties and urgent needs. Awareness of personal safety and security while caring for unstable clients. Recognition of environmental hazards inside and outside the facility. Compassionate care for clients charged with criminal conduct. Special Qualifications/Requirements Pass a comprehensive background investigation prior to formal offer. No felony convictions or probation. Background screening includes Personal History Form, interview, fingerprinting, possible polygraph, and verification of credentials. Ability to work weekends, evenings, night shifts, and holidays in a 24‑hour, 7‑day facility. Environmental Conditions Work will be performed in a locked facility with adult inmates who have complex health and psychosocial needs. The environment may be noisy and chaotic, with exposure to profanity and anti‑social behavior. Nurses must adhere to a no‑hostage policy.
