Clinical Psychologist II – Correctional Health Services Position: Clinical Psychologist II (full‑time) within Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, focusing on correctional health. The county offers up to a 20 % recruitment and retention bonus for hires who work on‑site in an assigned facility. Overview The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second‑largest municipal health system in the nation. The department is required by a Department of Justice consent decree to improve conditions and mental health care in county jails. This role provides psychological services in the jail setting and supports justice‑involved populations and their communities. Employment Details Work location: On‑site in a designated correctional facility. Initial term : up to 90 days with evaluation for permanent appointment. Responsibilities Perform diagnostic evaluation, structured clinical interviewing, and individual, group, and family therapy. Generate reports of diagnostic and psychological findings and treatment recommendations. Provide testimony before courts of law on results of psychological evaluations. Intervene with clients to enhance treatment participation, including goal setting and designing intervention strategies. Obtain and study medical, psychological, social, and family histories by interviewing individuals and reviewing relevant records. Provide consultation to medical providers on psychological and behavioral aspects of medical conditions. Offer technical guidance and instruction to interns and license‑waivered psychologists. Select, administer, and interpret a wide variety of psychological testing instruments for diagnosis and evaluation of clients with psychiatric and co‑occurring disorders. Evaluate client response to treatment, modify strategies, and involve clients in decision‑making. Utilize a variety of treatment modalities such as psychotherapy, behavior modification, and evidence‑based practices (e.g., cognitive‑behavioral therapy). Participate in screening and advisory roles for new professional personnel in psychology, including trainees and interns. Carry out psychological research studies and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects to inform departmental programs. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a California‑recognized equivalent. Active license to practice as a psychologist issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology. Proof of degree and license required at time of application. Valid California Class C driver license (or alternative transportation for job‑related essential functions). Eligible to work on any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Graduation from a program that includes clinical experience in correctional or forensic settings is highly desirable.
