Senior Back End Engineer

Senior Back End Engineer Work Shield is seeking a full‑time Senior Back End Engineer to join our development team in Dallas, Texas. This in‑office position will lead the design, development, and optimization of our user‑facing web application. What You’ll Do Architect, develop, and maintain high‑performance, scalable backend services and APIs. Optimize and refactor existing codebases for efficiency, scalability, and maintainability. Ensure system reliability and security by implementing best practices in authentication, authorization, and data protection. Design and manage databases, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and data integrity. Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver end‑to‑end solutions. Lead technical decision‑making by evaluating new technologies, frameworks, and architectures. Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence. Contribute to technical documentation and coding standards to improve knowledge sharing and maintainability. What We’re Looking For Candidates should have 5+ years of experience with the following skills: Backend Development using Rust, Node.js, and Python (FastAPI). AI & LLM Integration with ChatGPT, Llama Index, RAG, and prompt engineering. Database expertise in MySQL and MongoDB. API Development with RESTful and GraphQL standards. Authentication & Authorization with JWT. Caching & Performance Optimization using Redis. Real‑time Communication via WebSockets. Security best practices for APIs. Git & Version Control. Bonus Qualifications Understanding of distributed systems, microservice architectures, or Apollo Federation. Experience with vector databases such as Chroma or Pinecone. Experience with automated testing strategies in Rust, Node, or Python. Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,, or a related field is preferred. Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this role is up to $97,500, based on relevant experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
