About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Dining Director to lead our culinary team in a senior living community. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the dining services department, including food preparation, menu planning, regulatory compliance, budgeting, staff leadership, and resident satisfaction.

The Dining Director is responsible for the efficient operation of the dining services department. This working leadership position oversees daily kitchen operations while actively participating in food preparation, supervising team members, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and ensuring residents receive nutritious, high-quality meals.

• Plan, organize, and oversee all dining services and culinary operations.

• Lead and support the dining services team through hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and corrective action when necessary.

• Schedule and supervise department staff to ensure appropriate coverage and efficient operations.

• Prepare meals for residents, guests, and special events while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.

• Develop and modify menus that meet nutritional requirements, accommodate special diets, and promote resident satisfaction.

• Estimate food, supply, and labor needs while managing department expenses within budget.

• Maintain inventory and oversee purchasing of food and kitchen supplies.

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety, sanitation, and senior living regulations.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

• Monitor and document food, refrigerator, freezer, and water temperatures according to regulatory requirements.

• Maintain accurate departmental records, staffing documentation, and operational reports.

• Review departmental policies and procedures and recommend improvements when appropriate.

• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.

• Collaborate with leadership, residents, families, and other departments to promote excellent service and resident satisfaction.

• Attend resident meetings and respond to dining-related feedback with timely follow-up.

• Assist in preparing and managing the annual departmental budget.

• Coordinate maintenance, repair, and replacement of kitchen equipment as needed.

• Represent the community professionally during inspections, meetings, and community events.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Two or more years of experience managing dining services, food service operations, or commercial kitchens.

• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and nutritional menu planning, including special dietary needs.

• Experience managing food and labor costs and working within departmental budgets.

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to food service operations.

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Ability to interpret financial information and make sound operational decisions.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic computer applications is preferred.

• Current ServSafe Certification or equivalent state-approved food safety certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

• Must successfully complete all required background screenings in accordance with applicable laws.
