Receptionist/Switchboard Operator

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking a Receptionist/Switchboard Operator to join our team! This is a full-time position with HHS.

The successful candidate for the Receptionist/Switchboard Operator position will primarily work at the reception desk receiving and directing phone calls as well as assisting visitors to the facility. The work schedule will be a combination of morning shifts (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and afternoon shifts (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.). Additional times and different shifts (either day, afternoon or night) and some weekend work will be required to cover the 24/7 operation. Additional duties, including some clerical tasks, will also be assigned.

Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.

IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, includingindividualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education. Individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well. Minimum Qualification Requirements

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in general office, sales, reception, tour guide or related work experience which involved direct and regular contact with people;

OR graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency; OR satisfactory completion of a recognized job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level (MDTA, CEP, WIN, etc.) for the required experience.
