Director Of FinanceGirl Scouts of Suffolk County is Long Island's largest youth-serving agency. Guided by an ambitious plan and its dynamic team, GSSC aims to expand its footprint to every community in Suffolk County and make Girl Scouting possible for every Girl who wishes to participate.The Director of Finance provides strategic and hands-on financial leadership for Girl Scouts of Suffolk County and serves as a key financial advisor to the CEO, senior leadership team, Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors. The Director of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, nonprofit fund accounting, grants management, internal controls, compliance, and audit preparation. In addition to managing and developing the finance team, the Director of Finance is expected to actively participate in preparing, reviewing, and reconciling the organization's accounting records and year-end audit schedules. The Director of Finance reports to the CEO and serves on the Senior Leadership Team. As such, the Director may collaborate with other Senior Leadership Team members on projects as they arise.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesGeneral Ledger and Accounting OperationsDirect and actively participate in the organization's day-to-day accounting operations.Maintain responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.Review account activity and ensure transactions are properly recorded in the appropriate accounts, funds, departments, and programs.Prepare and review journal entries and support documentation.Ensure timely completion of closing procedures.Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified through account reconciliations and financial statement reviews.Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP and applicable to nonprofit accounting requirements.Sales and Other Tax FilingsPrepare, review, and/or coordinate required sales tax filings and related reporting.Maintain appropriate documentation supporting taxable and nontaxable transactions.Reconcile sales tax liabilities to the general ledger and supporting records.Nonprofit Fund AccountingMaintain accurate accounting for unrestricted, restricted, donor-designated, and Board-designated funds.Ensure revenue and expenses are properly classified according to donor restrictions, grant requirements, and organizational policies.Reconcile restricted fund balances and maintain supporting schedules.Monitor restricted-fund releases and ensure restrictions are properly recognized and documented.Grants and Restricted Funding.Assist program and development staff with grant budgets and financial reports.Ensure financial information submitted to grantors is accurate and consistent with the general ledger.Financial ReportingPrepare and/or review financial statements and management reports.Analyze financial statements for accuracy, completeness, trends, and unusual activity.Provide regular, accurate, and timely financial information to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.Budgeting and ForecastingLead preparation of the annual operating budget with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team. Work with individual SLT members, providing guidance and needed information. Recommend areas of concern or opportunity to the CEO.Develop financial forecasts.Monitor actual results against approved budgets.Analyze significant budget variances.Audit and Government filingsServe as a primary contact for external auditors during the annual audit.Maintain documentation supporting significant accounting estimates and year-end adjustments.Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation including:Accrued expenses and other accrued liabilitiesPrepaid expensesFixed assets and depreciationInvestmentsAccounts receivableAccounts payableDeferred revenueRestricted and unrestricted fundsPayroll liabilities and related accountsRevenuesFunctional expense statementReview audited financial statements for accuracy and completeness.Review the organization's Form 990 and related schedules with the external accounting/tax firm.Oversee other required audits, including workers' compensation audits and grant-related audits or reviews.Prepare other government-required forms, including the annual census.Payroll AccountingReview payroll entries and related general ledger postings.Reconcile payroll to quarterly payroll tax filings.Reconcile payroll liabilities and employee benefit accounts.Review payroll-related accruals and year-end payroll schedules.Coordinate with Human Resources and payroll providers to resolve discrepancies.Internal Controls, Risk Management and Process ImprovementIdentify financial and operational risks and communicate findings to the CEO.Develop, document, and maintain accounting and finance policies and procedures.Review financial processes for opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk.Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and approval controls.Identify opportunities to automate or streamline manual processes.Implement process improvements that strengthen financial controls while improving service and efficiency.Finance Team LeadershipManage, supervise, train, and develop finance staff.Provide technical accounting guidance and support to the finance team.Financial SystemsServe as administrator for Abila MIP/MIP Fund Accounting.Manage and oversee appropriate financial systems for imports and integrations.Administer the Ramp credit card system.Pay Range and Compensation PackageSalary Range: $135k-150kWork Schedule: Monday – Friday/40 hours a week/Weekends as neededFLSA Status: ExemptTwo-day remote work OpportunityGenerous PTO/Sick PackageMedical, HRA, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life Insurance, FSA, 403(b) MatchEqual Opportunity StatementAt Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, we celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
