Senior Electroneurodiagnostic Tech

Position Summary Senior Electroneurodiagnostic Technician responsible for overseeing and conducting routine, ambulatory, and bedside EEGs, complex EEG, intraoperative grid hook-up and video monitoring on patients using appropriate recording machines, maintaining electrode integrity throughout patient hospitalization, and archiving and burning patient files to CD or DVD. Job Responsibilities Facilitates the department’s clinical site program by shadowing students from affiliated EEG training schools. Educates students in EEG lab operations and demonstrates all job expectations to them. Participates regularly in continuing education activities; attends conferences or weekly reviews as required. Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and applicable vendor systems as they relate to the EEG laboratory. Accesses patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports for both out‑patients and in‑patients. Properly hooks up continuous VEEG monitoring, routine and ambulatory EEGs using appropriate techniques and montages. Properly hooks up and completes geodesic EEG studies using appropriate techniques and montages. Prepares patients for testing and administers routine EEG with a high degree of technical competency independently; measures head appropriately, places electrodes properly, and checks their integrity. Performs, assesses, and critiques patients’ EEGs to determine what is necessary for a complete diagnostic study; alerts appropriate medical staff of abnormalities requiring immediate attention; assists the neurologist in the event of a patient seizure and informs the physician of any changes in patient condition. Upon completion of testing, removes electrodes and gel, cleans patient head, and wipes down equipment; completes the assignment within a realistic time frame. Detects equipment malfunctions, makes minor maintenance adjustments, and follows departmental guidelines for troubleshooting; alerts the EEG lab supervisor and/or lead EEG technologist when unable to resolve issues. Performs cleaning of required equipment; cleans and prepares equipment daily before use on patients. Maintains VEEG archive and report database; retrieves, copies, and prints data as requested; archives and burns data onto CDs or server, double‑checks integrity before deleting data from hard drives; familiar with filing of CDs, videos, and recordings. Documents all patient‑related data according to departmental procedure; uses patient chart to obtain pertinent history and gathers additional information from patient/parent if minor. Reviews files for seizure activity and marks appropriate sections for physician review; completes this before 10 AM; notifies physician of findings requiring immediate review. Prepares descriptive report of test procedure and results for physician information and subsequent interpretation. Performs advanced interpretation of EEG recordings, recognizing pathological patterns including seizures in adult and pediatric patients. Assists in performing intraoperative corticography procedures; ensures necessary equipment is present and set‑up appropriately in operating rooms; provides additional assistance as necessary. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of continuous EEG monitoring including intraoperative monitoring such as corticography; hooks up patients with surgically implanted subdural electrodes using appropriate montages. Demonstrates a detailed knowledge of EEG monitoring. Demonstrates a detailed knowledge of the broad range of epilepsy symptoms and pathologies. Modifies standard recording techniques as required by special problems and unanticipated circumstances. Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts, and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them. Appropriately uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep; monitors other variables during EEG such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro‑oculograms, respiration when necessary. Maintains VEEG recording daily, including restarting and transferring studies daily, periodic checks of electrode impedance, and monitoring of scalp sites for skin breakdown. Performs continuous video EEG (VEEG) monitoring independently using scalp electrode placements with appropriate documentation. Provides for patient comfort and arranges equipment for procedures; works well with babies, children, adolescents, and adults, including parents and caregivers; prepares equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures; identifies self to patient, verifies patient identity through ID bracelet or verbal acknowledgment; explains procedures and equipment clearly; answers inquiries and reassures patient during test to obtain cooperation; maintains patient privacy at all times. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s service standards and incorporates them into performance of duties. Minimum Qualifications R.EEG.T registration from ABRET is required. High School Diploma or equivalent. Three years of video EEG experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Additional certifications from ABRET in CLTM monitoring are advantageous. Certified in BCLS. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Salary NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $102,578.76 – $102,578.76 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
