Senior Electroneurodiagnostic Tech

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Electroneurodiagnostic Tech. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and conducting routine, ambulatory, and bedside EEGs, as well as complex EEG, intra operative grid hook‑up and video‑monitoring on patients utilizing appropriate recording machines. Maintenance of electrode integrity throughout patient hospitalization. Archiving and burning of patient files to CD or DVD. Job Responsibilities Facilitates the department's clinical site program by shadowing students from affiliated EEG training schools. Educates the students in EEG Lab operations and demonstrates all job expectations to them. Participates regularly in continuing education activities and attends conferences or weekly reviews as required. Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and applicable vendor systems as they relate to the EEG Laboratory. Accesses patient information such as appointment times, exam type, and reports for both out‑patients and in‑patients. Properly hooks up continuous VEEG monitoring, routine and ambulatory EEGs, using appropriate techniques and montages. Properly hooks up and completes geodesic EEG studies using appropriate techniques and montages. Prepares patients for testing and administers routine EEG with high technical competency, independently. Measures head appropriately, places electrodes properly, and checks their integrity. Prepares patients using departmental criteria and techniques to ensure quality recordings. Performs, assesses, and critiques the patient's EEG to determine diagnostic necessity. Alerts medical staff of abnormalities requiring immediate attention and assists neurologists during patient seizures. Informs physicians of any changes in patient condition. Upon completion, removes electrodes and gel, cleans patient head, and wipes down equipment. Carries out assignment within realistic time frame. Detects equipment malfunctions, makes minor adjustments, and follows departmental troubleshooting guidelines, alerting the EEG Lab Supervisor or Lead EEG Technologist when unresolved. Performs cleaning of required equipment; prepares equipment daily prior to patient use. Maintains VEEG archive and report database; retrieves, copies, and prints data as requested. Archives and burns data onto CDs or server, double‑checks integrity before deleting from hard drive. Familiar with filing of CDs, videos, and recordings. Documents all patient‑related data per departmental procedure. Utilizes patient chart to obtain pertinent history and additional information through questioning the patient/parent, if minor. Reviews files for seizure activity and marks appropriate sections for physician review, completing prior to 10 AM and notifying physician of findings requiring immediate review. Prepares descriptive report of test procedure and results for physician interpretation. Performs advanced interpretation of EEG recordings, recognizing pathological patterns including seizures in adults and pediatric patients. Assists in intraoperative corticography procedures, ensuring necessary equipment is present and properly set up in operating rooms. Demonstrates knowledge of continuous EEG monitoring, including intra‑operative monitoring such as corticography, and hooks up patients with surgically implanted subdural electrodes using appropriate montages. Demonstrates detailed knowledge of EEG monitoring and epilepsy symptoms and pathologies. Modifies recording techniques for special problems and unanticipated circumstances. Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts, and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them. Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep; monitors other variables during EEG such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro‑oculograms, respiration when necessary. Maintains VEEG recording daily, including restarting and transferring studies, periodic impedance checks, and monitoring scalp sites for skin breakdown. Performs continuous video EEG (VEEG) monitoring independently with scalp electrode placements and documentation. Provides patient comfort and arranges equipment for procedures, working well with infants, children, adolescents, and adults and their caregivers. Prepares equipment and supplies per departmental procedures, identifies self to patient, verifies identity via ID bracelet or verbal acknowledgement, explains procedures and equipment clearly, answers inquiries, and assures privacy at all times. Incorporates organization Service Standards into duty performance. Minimum Qualifications R.EEG.T registration from ABRET is required. High School Diploma or equivalent. Three years of video EEG experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Additional certifications from ABRET in CLTM monitoring are advantageous. Certified in BCLS.
