We are expanding our North Carolina practice and looking for a lawyer who wants meaningful work, real responsibility, and the opportunity to build a serious litigation career. This is a fully remote position that may be performed from anywhere in North Carolina.

Our attorneys represent employees facing discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, FMLA violations, unpaid wages and overtime, and other workplace violations. These cases matter. Clients often come to us during one of the most difficult periods of their careers, and they need lawyers who will listen, think strategically, communicate clearly, and fight for them.

You will work directly with clients, evaluate claims, develop case strategy, negotiate with opposing counsel, take and defend depositions, draft and argue motions, conduct discovery, participate in mediations, and prepare cases for trial.

At Spitz, responsibility follows performance. You do not have to wait for a particular class year or title before taking on meaningful work. As your judgment and skills develop, so will your responsibility.

You also will not be expected to figure everything out on your own. You will work with experienced trial attorneys who provide mentorship, feedback, strategy, and support while giving you the opportunity to develop your own judgment, confidence, and advocacy skills.

$65,000 - $95,000 yearly + Bonus

• Represent employees throughout North Carolina in employment claims and litigation.

• Work directly with clients to understand their goals, evaluate claims, and provide clear, practical legal advice.

• Develop case strategy and take ownership of moving cases forward.

• Draft EEOC and state agency charges, demand letters, pleadings, discovery, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents.

• Take and defend depositions and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony.

• Conduct discovery, analyze evidence, and identify the facts and legal issues that drive case strategy.

• Negotiate directly with opposing counsel and participate in mediations and settlement conferences.

• Advocate for clients before the EEOC, state agencies, and courts.

• Research and brief substantive employment-law and litigation issues.

• Prepare cases for dispositive motions, mediation, and trial.

• Communicate regularly with clients and provide exceptional client service throughout the representation.

• Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to move cases efficiently toward resolution.

• Take on increasing litigation responsibility as your skills, judgment, and experience develop.

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

• Licensed to practice law in North Carolina, awaiting North Carolina bar results, or eligible for prompt admission.

• Strong legal writing, analytical, and verbal advocacy skills.

• Excellent judgment and the ability to evaluate facts, risks, and strategy.

• Ability to communicate with empathy, earn clients’ trust, and provide practical legal advice.

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple cases and deadlines.

• Driven, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership of your work in a remote environment.

• Coachable, intellectually curious, and committed to continually improving as an advocate.

• Genuine interest in litigation, employment law, civil rights, or representing employees.

• Motivated by meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to become an exceptional litigator.

Employment law experience is a plus, but not required. We value judgment, intelligence, work ethic, communication skills, and litigation potential more than a particular number of years in practice.
