Controller PositionWe're a leading beverage distribution company based in New Jersey, seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations of the business. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, internal controls, cash flow management, and process improvement in a fast-paced distribution environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, operational insight, and the ability to improve systems and reporting.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingOversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AR, AP, inventory, and payrollPrepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsManage and execute the month-end and year-end close processMaintain and reconcile all balance sheet accountsCoordinate with external CPA firm for tax filings and year-end reviewCash Flow & Working Capital ManagementMonitor and manage cash flow and liquidityOversee accounts receivable and collectionsAnalyze and improve AR aging and customer credit policiesManage vendor payments and optimize payment termsDevelop and maintain cash flow forecastsInventory & Cost AccountingOversee inventory accounting and reconciliationEnsure accurate inventory valuation and costingMonitor and report on inventory variances and shrinkagePartner with operations to improve inventory controls and processesOperational & Financial AnalysisDevelop and maintain margin reporting by SKU, customer, and channelAnalyze profitability across key accounts (e.g., Costco, Jetro, Restaurant Depot, direct store delivery)Support pricing and cost decisions with data-driven analysisPrepare management reports and dashboardsCompliance & Internal ControlsEstablish and maintain strong internal controlsEnsure compliance with state and local regulations, including: New York State container deposit lawsOversee sales tax filings and regulatory reportingSupport audit processes and documentationSystems & Process ImprovementOptimize use of Sage 100 ERP systemIdentify and implement process improvements and automationLeverage technology and AI tools to improve efficiency and reportingReduce manual processes and improve data accuracyQualificationsMinimum 5+ years experience as a Controller or equivalent role in a small to mid-sized businessStrong experience in distribution, beverage, or consumer goods industryHands-on experience with inventory and cost accountingExperience managing accounts receivable, collections, and cash flowKnowledge of New York State container deposit (bottle bill) accounting and reportingStrong understanding of GAAP and financial reportingExperience with ERP systems (preferably Sage 100 or similar)Preferred CPA or public accounting background (e.g., audit experience)Experience working in a family-owned or entrepreneurial businessExperience implementing systems improvements or automationAdvanced Excel and financial modeling skills$100,000 - $140,000 a year
