Orientation and Mobility Specialist

Job Description
If you want to make a significant impact as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) in a School in California, this position might be what you are looking for!
Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement mobility goals as part of the student’s IEP
- Teach safe travel skills, spatial awareness, and use of mobility aids (e.g., long cane)
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student independence
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain required documentation
Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (COMS) issued by the National Blindness Professional Certification Board
- National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC) issued by the National Blindness Professional Certification Board
- Orientation & Mobility Specialist Certification (PK–12)
- Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement with O&M specialization
- Special Education certification with O&M authorization
- Ability to work effectively in a School setting
- Strong communication, time management, and clinical decision-making skills
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in a School setting
- Familiarity with electronic documentation systems
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and patient-centered care
