Job Description
The Systems Engineer supports full-lifecycle engineering design and development activities across both established programs and innovative new products. This role applies strong technical acumen and structured problem-solving to execute systems engineering tasks, from requirements analysis and modeling to integration planning, test, and verification. The Systems Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, prepares and presents engineering work products to internal and external stakeholders, and drives assigned tasks to completion with a balance of independence and mentorship.
Responsibilities

• Support full-lifecycle engineering design and development activities for existing systems and new, disruptive products.
• Perform systems engineering tasks such as requirements analysis, impact assessments, systems modeling using SysML, trade studies, requirements derivation, design review support, integration planning, test, verification, risk management, and engineering analysis.
• Develop, maintain, and manage system requirements, including derivation, allocation, and traceability using tools such as DOORS and Jira.
• Create and maintain system models and architectures using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw.
• Prepare clear, well-structured systems engineering work products, including technical documents, models, analyses, and presentations.
• Present systems engineering deliverables and technical findings to internal review teams and external customers during program milestone reviews.
• Collaborate daily with technical leads, program managers, planners, technicians, and other engineers to ensure technical alignment and successful program execution.
• Drive assigned tasks to completion independently while seeking guidance and mentorship as appropriate.
• Coordinate with other departments and customer representatives to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and support technical decisions.
• Support hardware and/or software integration activities, including planning, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation.
• Contribute to risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning for systems engineering activities.
• Use Microsoft Office tools to document analyses, prepare reports, develop presentations, and communicate project status.
• Travel up to 15% as needed to support reviews, integration, test events, or customer engagements.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with at least 2 years of related experience (systems or test engineering preferred), or a Master's Degree in Engineering with at least 1 year of related experience.
• Hands-on experience with hardware and/or software integration, requirements derivation and allocation, or system architecture design.
• Proficiency with DOORS for requirements management.
• Experience using Jira for task and requirements tracking.
• Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw for system modeling.
• Familiarity with SysML for systems modeling and documentation.
• Effective and efficient technical writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
• Eligibility for a Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain clearance as required.
• United States citizenship.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
• Experience or certifications in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
• Experience with Windows and/or Unix operating systems.
• Active Secret security clearance is preferred.
• Experience working in environments involving electronic warfare, aerospace, defense, or related high-technology domains.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to engineering trade studies and impact assessments.

Work Environment
The role operates within a state-of-the-art engineering and development facility focused on electronic systems, including test and simulation hardware and software for Electronic Warfare (EW) applications. The team designs and develops systems used on the flight line, on test ranges, and in laboratory environments to simulate enemy radar or missile threats, enabling realistic testing of aircraft sensors and electronics and supporting pilot training. The work environment emphasizes high-fidelity software and hardware design to accurately represent an evolving and expanding electromagnetic threat landscape. The schedule follows a 9/80 work structure, providing every other Friday off, and the organization offers extensive resources for training, professional development, and career growth. Work is primarily office and lab-based, using tools such as DOORS, Jira, Cameo or MagicDraw, SysML, Microsoft Office, and Windows and/or Unix operating systems, with occasional travel to customer sites, test locations, or review meetings.

This is a Contract position based out of Hunt Valley, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $90.00/hr.
