Computational Genomics Senior Research Scientist

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a Senior Research Scientist in Computational Genomics to leverage human genetics, genomics, and computational methods—including AI—to advance therapeutic development. Based in San Diego, the role partners with cross-functional teams to design studies and translate complex datasets into actionable insights for target discovery, biomarker development, and disease understanding.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional project teams to identify scientific questions addressable through human genetics, genomics, and computational analyses
• Design, execute, and interpret human genetic and multi-omic studies advancing target discovery, biomarker development, and mechanistic understanding
• Apply and develop computational and statistical approaches to analyze complex biological datasets and generate actionable insights
• Own analyses from biological question through recommendation, clearly communicating conclusions and next steps to diverse audiences
• Contribute to scientific publications, regulatory submissions, and communications supporting research and development activities

Requirements

• PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, human genetics, or related field with 3+ years post-doctoral/industry experience; or Master's degree with 8+ years industry experience
• Demonstrated expertise analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting human genetics, genomic, and NGS data
• Experience applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large-scale biological datasets
• Proficiency in R, Python, Unix/Linux environments, and high-performance computing systems
• Solid foundation in statistics and genetics, including human genetic variation in disease biology
• Strong scientific judgment with ability to translate complex datasets into actionable conclusions
• Excellent communication skills for diverse scientific audiences; interest in emerging computational and AI approaches

Compensation: $129,900 - $194,900 base
