Estimator

Western State Builders is a rapidly growing General Engineering firm performing park development and public works projects throughout Southern California. We specialize in the installation of commercial playgrounds, shade structures, outdoor fitness equipment, site furnishings, and site work. We’re looking for an Experienced Public Works Estimator to join our team. This position is full-time and located in our San Marcos office. The ideal candidate would be detail oriented, proactive, continual learner, team player, and a positive attitude. General Job Duties and Responsibilities Analyze plans, specifications, and other project documents Develop estimate Scope of Work Prepare accurate take-off and quantity Generate and submit Request for Information (RFIs) to bid entities Attend pre-bid meetings and conferences Generate itemized cost proposal for management review Build relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain bid proposals Ensure scope coverage for all bid items Complete all bid packages and submit to required entities accurately and on time Coordinate with Project Management team for job setup/start-up and buyout Assist Project Management Team with any change orders, rough order of magnitudes, or other scope of work changes Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Other duties as assigned Required Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Advanced mathematical and analytical skills Critical thinking and problem-solving skills Outstanding attention to detail Able to prioritize tasks and complete projects on time and budget Experience and Education Minimum 5 years of heavy commercial/public works estimating experience is required. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction/Project Management or closely related field is encouraged but not required Thorough understanding of current construction methods, materials, and regulations Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, Bluebeam, and Share Point is required Must be able to learn quickly and be adaptable to a variety of situations This position is located in San Marcos, but requires occasional travel to jobsites throughout San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles counties as needed. A company gas and credit card will be provided. The applicant must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving history. Western State Builders offers company paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee, as well as a 401k plan. The anticipated pay range for this role is $120,000-$150,000 per year depending on experience.
