Summary Serves as the primary contact for families, department physicians, and outside physicians seeking care for their patients. Responsible for providing genetic counseling and case management for patients/families to facilitate understanding of disease or birth defect, explain diagnosis and implication to families, including recurrence risks, prognosis of condition and reproductive options. Ensures completion of genetic counseling services for other clinics and provides education and information for physicians, residents, and nurses in accordance with CMC's policy and procedures. Reviews genetic test interpretations and reports results. Serves as a client/patient liaison. May write policies, procedures, abstracts, or posters. Responsibilities General: Customer Service Liaison - Supports the customer service efforts of the organization as necessary. Utilizes genetics expertise to inform timely and accurate responses to clinician inquiries. Reviews complex genetic test orders to ensure the correct and most cost-effective test has been ordered for a specific patient based on their personal and/or family history. May participate in training of Genetic Counselors, fellows, and residents. Clinical Focus: Patient Care - Obtains medical/family history, conducts psychosocial assessment, provides relevant genetic counseling, presents salient information to physician, coordinates testing, calls out test results, completes electronic charting. Case Management - reports and interprets test results with families and referring physicians; responsible for care coordination, prescription refills, and communication with schools, therapists, external & internal physicians. Chart Review - Obtains and reviews medical records, consults with families and referring providers prior to appointment, and conducts literature review. Laboratory Focused: Variant Interpretation and Report Writing – Interprets complex genomic data in a pediatric genetic diagnostic setting. This will involve clinical correlation of gene/variant with patient phenotype, scientific literature review, and/or report writing for both targeted and high‑complexity genomic tests. Test Development – Supports new test development efforts of the laboratory and updates to existing tests, as needed. Knowledge Holding - Prepares technical documentation drafts for protocols and policies. Work Experience At least 1 year related experience and experience in a pediatric and or metabolic role Preferred

EDUCATION

Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Required
