As a Public Health Registered Nurse at the Twiggs County Health Department, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Job Responsibilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of and exercises good judgment in the execution of patient care protocols.
- Orders appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments and administers medications and vaccines in accordance with protocol.
- Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing and interpret the results to direct treatment.
- Provides patient education and makes appropriate referrals.
- Facilitates patient decision making by providing health education, counseling, and tools
- Provides thorough documentation of medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referrals, education, and consultations in the electronic medical record system.
- Performs women's wellness services, contraceptive counseling, and contraceptives according to protocol.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) and enrolling eligible patients into the program.
- Provides assessment, screening, and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases according to protocol.
- Administers tuberculosis testing, interprets results and works with the TB Program Coordinator to support follow-up and treatment.
- Provides child health, vision screening and supports the provision of other primary care services as needed.
- Performs onsite waived lab testing offered by the HD, performs wet preps, and participates in lab QA/QI.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of programs and services available through the Department of Public Health and external agencies and providing referrals to eligible infants, children, and adults.
- Consults with and refer patients to physicians and other care providers as indicated.
- Promote public health in the community through education about resources and programs.
- Participates in meetings and contributes to District program goals and objectives as needed.
- Participates in peer review according to protocol requirements.
- Participates in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities and essential functions may change to meet organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nursing experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level PH Registered Nurse 1 (HCP190) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Knowledge of Ga DPH Nurse protocols.
