Workers Compensation Attorney

We are seeking a skilled Workers Compensation Attorney to join our defense team representing employers and insurance carriers in workers compensation matters. The ideal candidate will manage a mixed docket of administrative and civil matters, provide strategic legal advice, draft pleadings and motions, negotiate settlements, and, when necessary, litigate at hearings and on appeal. This role requires strong knowledge of workers compensation law, experience in insurance defense and litigation, and the ability to handle complex caseloads independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent employers and insurance carriers in workers compensation claims before administrative tribunals and civil courts.
• Manage a robust caseload from intake through resolution, including investigation, discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiation, and trial or hearing preparation.
• Prepare and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and appellate documents with clear, persuasive legal writing.
• Advise clients on risk exposure, potential outcomes, and strategic options, including cost-benefit analysis of settlement versus litigation.
• Conduct depositions, prepare witnesses, and advocate for clients at hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Work closely with claims adjusters, medical providers, vocational experts, and other stakeholders to develop defense strategies.
• Stay current on changes in workers compensation statutes, case law, and administrative rules to ensure effective representation and compliance.
• Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and paralegals, reviewing work product and providing training on best practices.
• Maintain timely and accurate case documentation, calendar critical deadlines, and meet billing and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the PA bar; bonus points for NJ bar admission
• Minimum of 3+ years of workers compensation defense experience; experience representing employers and insurance carriers preferred.
• Proven background in insurance defense, litigation, and administrative hearings, with appellate experience a strong plus.
• Demonstrated skills in legal research and persuasive writing, including drafting briefs and appellate filings.
• Trial and hearing experience with ability to present evidence, examine witnesses, and argue motions effectively.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience resolving claims through settlement where appropriate.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and case management abilities with attention to detail.
• Professional communication skills and ability to counsel clients, coordinate with claims teams, and communicate complex legal concepts to non-attorneys.
• Familiarity with state workers compensation statutes, regulations, and administrative procedures.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
