Project Accountant

About The Role As our Project Accountant, you’ll work closely with project managers and our administrative team to ensure accurate reporting and smooth billing cycles. You’ll report directly to the Controller and be a key liaison to project teams, ensuring that project accounting data is timely, accurate, and actionable. The Project Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of project financial data and providing proactive analysis that helps guide project performance and profitability. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly client invoices, including time & expense, percent complete, and milestone billings. Partner with project managers to confirm billable status, percent complete, and con-tract compliance. Monitor accounts receivable for assigned projects and support collection activities. Review and process accounts payable, ensuring consultant invoices align with con-tract terms. Communicate with consultant vendors regarding billing compliance, required docu-mentation, payment status, and project coding. Coordinate with project managers on consultant contracts, billing phases, percent complete, and invoice documentation. Verify labor charges, consultant costs, and reimbursable expenses for accuracy and proper coding. Track project budgets, commitments, and actuals to identify variances and potential overruns. Provide project managers with timely financial updates, including labor to date, earned revenue, and forecast to complete. Prepare monthly project performance reports, including profitability, utilization, and work in progress (WIP). Support month end close with project level reporting and analysis. Assist with firmwide accounting functions as needed. Prepare monthly accounting workpapers and reconciliations, including cash ac-counts, credit card activity, prepaid amortization, fixed assets, and vendor setup. Support cash management activities and banking relations. Review employee expense reports for proper support and coding. Maintain and updated standard operating procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years experience in project accounting, preferably in an architecture, engineering, or professional services environment. A/E industry experience preferred but not required. Strong attention to detail with the ability to review project contracts and understand the different phases and allowable expenses. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to research and reconcile accounts. Highly effective in invoicing, collections, G/L, and A/P. Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product. Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively to maximize performance and results. Technologically savvy with the ability to manage and manipulate data and respond to project consultant inquiries quickly and effectively. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint software is desirable but not required. Salary Range: $67,000 - $77,000 per year The specific salary offered may be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant experience, skills, qualifications, certifications, education, and work location.
