Welder / Fitter 39036

Job Accountabilities To function as a welder / fitter on new assemblies and repair of steel structural and component parts. To be member of the welding group producing expected workloads at the required skill level to output the highest quality product set by the department. Secure job assignment and partial instruction for diverse work, complex facilities, and conventional materials. Observe the operation of the welding machine while processing parts. Make necessary repairs and adjustments. Use protective equipment when observing cutting operations. Lay out, tack, and weld out weldments using hand and semi‑automatic equipment. Set voltages and amperage for various thicknesses of material. Maintain a clean and orderly work area, exercising care in the use of facilities and performing routine maintenance (minor adjustments and oiling) and assisting on other repairs (both minor and major) when required. Perform all duties and areas of responsibility in accordance with established operational procedures to ensure efficiency, quality, and conformance to applicable OSHA and EPA regulations. Perform various other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalency. Must be able to pass welding and fit test. Must have welding skills in layout and sheet metal fabrication. Must have specific knowledge of the use of structural steel parts, weldments and assemblies, various filler metal, various gases, etc. Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints, related drawings, schematics, and manuals as they relate to the welding process. Must be able to produce jigs, templates, and tools that will increase efficiency. Must have the ability to operate a forklift. Must have basic mechanical knowledge/skills. Must have the ability to rig heavy equipment for lifting installation techniques.
