Executive Director, Product Strategy and Execution

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Executive Director, Product Strategy and Execution based in United States.

The Executive Director, Product Strategy and Execution will lead the strategy, development, and execution of health product offerings across group and individual markets. You will combine market research, competitive intelligence, customer insights, and business strategy to identify opportunities and shape a differentiated product portfolio. The role spans the full product lifecycle, from concept and research through design, implementation, market positioning, and ongoing optimization. You will work closely with underwriting, sales, marketing, technology, operations, and external partners to turn product strategy into measurable business outcomes. A key focus will be building repeatable approaches to discovery, performance measurement, governance, and customer experience. This is a senior leadership role for an innovative and commercially minded product professional who can influence across functions, develop talent, and drive growth in a dynamic benefits marketplace.

Accountabilities:

• Lead the development and ongoing management of a competitive health product portfolio, identifying gaps and prioritizing offerings that meet evolving market and customer needs.
• Develop deep knowledge of the voluntary benefits marketplace, cultivating relationships across the market and monitoring emerging trends, competitive dynamics, and opportunities.
• Serve as a key product storyteller and subject-matter expert, helping field partners and internal teams understand, communicate, position, sell, and administer products effectively.
• Lead all stages of product development, including market research, customer insights, product design, sales strategy, competitive analysis, requirements documentation, cost-benefit analysis, and implementation.
• Conduct risk assessments related to the internal and external resources, capabilities, and dependencies required to successfully launch new products.
• Establish and manage budgets and operational plans for products under development and ongoing management.
• Lead health product claims strategies, including claims integration solutions and opportunities to improve the customer experience.
• Develop value-added and care-delivery strategies for supplemental health products and manage relationships with external vendors and partners.
• Lead RFP and finalist processes for partner selection, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to evaluate and select appropriate solutions.
• Own product strategy from concept through market launch, using market and competitive intelligence to define, position, and champion new offerings.
• Partner with underwriting, sales, and marketing teams to competitively position products and build awareness among producers and distribution partners.
• Act as the central source of expertise on product capabilities, market needs, and customer expectations to support successful product execution.
• Ensure product initiatives achieve targeted return-on-investment objectives and adapt strategies and tactics as needed to deliver expected results.
• Coach and develop direct reports while providing direction and prioritization for product initiatives across technology and project partners.
• Define and own KPIs for new product initiatives, using performance data to support informed decisions, course correction, and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ensure products remain compliant with applicable requirements and that regulatory changes are addressed promptly.
• Perform other duties and strategic responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree.
• 7–10 years of relevant industry experience, including experience across product development, product management, and implementation.
• Demonstrated experience developing or managing voluntary benefits and/or group products.
• Strong understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive positioning within the benefits industry.
• Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without relying on direct authority.
• Proven ability to develop, refine, and execute strategies and tactics that support business growth.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex concepts and resolve challenging business issues.
• Demonstrated ability to inspire, lead, coach, and develop both leaders and individual contributors.
• Experience collaborating across organizational functions to build consensus, create synergies, resolve conflicts, negotiate effectively, and support shared business objectives.
• Innovative and creative approach to identifying opportunities to improve products, processes, and customer experiences.
• High level of integrity, sound judgment, and strength of character.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Deep broker and market relationships within voluntary benefits and adjacent markets are preferred.
• Sales or client-facing experience, including technology, partnerships, account executive, account management, or similar roles, is preferred.
• Experience leading research initiatives and synthesizing consumer and customer insights is preferred.
