Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery will provide specialized nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective care. The nurse will manage a patient ratio of 1:3, participate in orientation, and maintain certifications including ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP. Strong labor and postpartum experience is required, with flexibility to float between like units as needed.

Responsibilities:

Provide skilled nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients.
Perform patient assessments and administer medications as prescribed.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members.
Manage patient ratios effectively to ensure quality care (1:3 ratio).
Participate in orientation and ongoing education programs.
Float between labor and delivery and similar units as required.
Document patient care accurately using Epic electronic medical records.
Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2 years labor and postpartum nursing experience.
Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP.
Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

AWHONN Advanced certification.
Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Previous experience in acute care hospital settings.

Special Considerations:

Hard-stop requirement for labor and postpartum experience.
Float between labor and delivery and like units as needed.
Scrub color code adherence: Royal Blue or Navy Blue for RNs.
Facility allows 4x12 hour shifts upon request.
Systemwide Do Not Return (DNR) applies if cancellations occur after signature.
Return to Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at submission.
Facility may call off staff once per two-week pay period.

Scheduling:

Orientation period of 36 hours required.
Shift pattern primarily 12-hour shifts, with option for 4x12 schedule.
Block scheduling is not offered.
Scheduling is determined by facility needs and patient census.
