Job Title: Specialist, Cutting Tool Design Engineer Job ID: 37693 Job Location: Canoga Park, CA Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off Job Description We are seeking a Cutting Tool Design Engineer to join our facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area). This position will assist in the development and design of a variety of tools and equipment required to support manufacturing. You will perform feasibility analysis of special tool plans; create tool concepts and ensure tool designs, models, and drawings use current environmental health and safety procedures, tool standards manuals and sound engineering practices; initiate fabrication and assist with verification and operational checkout of special cutting tools and holders; and resolve tooling problems encountered during tool usage. Essential Functions Provides imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems involving the conventional utilization of tool engineering techniques. Conceives and plans projects involving the development of new methods to attain objectives. Coordinates and contributes to cutting tool design and modification, requiring knowledge of production processes, requirements, design concepts and materials. May work closely with strategic suppliers in design and fabrication techniques and tool quality acceptance. Interprets production plans and creates cutting tools to accomplish contractual or production requirements. Strong knowledge of cutting tools for machining applications. Advises on machine suitability and methods of fabrication. Observes and evaluates new cutting tool tryouts for design suitability and authorizes deviation and/or tool design changes. Maintains an interchange of information with cutting tool suppliers regarding optimum fabrication methods, materials, designs and repairs. Directs cutting tool design and grinding of special cutting tools. Presents formal cutting tool and design reviews and may include customer interface. Observes budget and schedule for assigned project tool string. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills Pertinent codes, rules and regulations related to Cutting Tool Engineering. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) methods and techniques. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack principles. Quality control and regulatory processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), used to produce reports and spreadsheets. Numerical control and manufacturing practices and processes. Manufacturing methods and fabrication processes. Experience/background in machining. Safety regulations, principles and practices of work safety. Compensation and Benefits In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the state of California is $84,000 - $156,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
