Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $19.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support a leading healthcare organization in Houston, TX . This is an excellent opportunity for a sterile processing professional who takes pride in maintaining high standards for instrument decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and patient safety .

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, inspection, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments, trays, and equipment.

   

• Assemble basic surgical trays, individual instruments, and equipment according to established count sheets and department procedures.

   

• Wrap or package instruments and equipment appropriately based on size, type, and sterilization requirements.

   

• Prepare and provide sterile products, surgical trays, and case carts in a timely manner to support operating room needs.

   

• Sterilize instruments and surgical trays according to manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU) and established hospital policies and procedures.

   

• Follow established processes to ensure instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, assembled, packaged, and sterilized before use.

   

• Perform visual inspections to ensure trays and instruments meet established quality standards and AAMI guidelines .

   

• Follow Universal Precautions and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in the decontamination area.

   

• Properly use cleaning detergents, disinfectants, and other processing agents according to product instructions and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) .

   

• Operate sterile processing equipment according to manufacturer instructions and department policies and protocols.

   

• Maintain an organized and efficient workflow to support continuous operations between Sterile Processing and the Operating Room .

   

• Assist coworkers with workload and perform additional sterile processing duties as needed.

   

• Communicate effectively with surgical technologists, OR staff, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.

   

• Demonstrate excellent customer service when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.

   

• Use basic computer programs, including Microsoft Office , and electronic instrument tracking systems as applicable.

   

• Maintain professional telephone etiquette when responding to department inquiries.

   

• Follow all hospital safety, infection prevention, and sterile processing policies and procedures.

   

Qualifications

• Sterile Processing certification required: CRCST or CSPDT within 1 year .

   

• Previous sterile processing experience preferred.

   

• Knowledge of instrument decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and quality control processes.

   

• Knowledge of manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU) and sterile processing best practices.

   

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and established safety procedures.

   

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

   

• Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.

   

• Strong communication and customer service skills.

   

• Basic computer skills required.

   

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

   

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
