What your day looks like
You arrive to a fast-paced turning cell where multiple CNC lathes are waiting. You review the day’s blueprints, load tools, and bring machines online. Throughout the shift, you rotate between machines—changing tools at planned life intervals, dialing in offsets, and verifying that every turned part meets customer specifications.
Between production runs, you capture part and process data in the ERP system so each component can be traced through every operation. You keep first-pass quality high while meeting production targets, and you back it up with precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, go/no-go gauges, and periodic checks on the CMM. You help keep the cell safe and clean, complete required paperwork, join team huddles, and represent the company professionally with coworkers, suppliers, and visitors.
What you'll do- Operate and monitor multiple CNC lathes at once in a high-volume setting.
- Read complex blueprints and confirm features are machined to specification.
- Perform tool changes based on predetermined tool life and make offset adjustments as needed.
- Apply basic shop math to verify dimensions and machining parameters.
- Maintain production rates while achieving strong first-time quality.
- Use the ERP system to record work and ensure complete product traceability through all processes.
- Follow all plant safety rules, company policies, and procedures; complete daily paperwork; attend job-related meetings; and keep your work area orderly.
- Micrometers, calipers, and go/no-go gauges for in-process checks.
- CMM for validation and capability studies.
- Wide range of cutting tools specific to CNC turning.
- Lift up to 50 pounds, move heavy items, and operate light equipment.
- Empty scrap bins and handle material carts.
- Frequent bending, twisting, walking, pushing, and pulling.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficient in blueprint reading.
- Skilled with micrometers; comfortable using calipers and go/no-go gauges.
- Experience operating a CMM.
- Ability to convert between inch and metric units is a plus.
- Familiarity with Swiss-turn lathes is beneficial.
