About the Opportunity

CourtScribes is looking for experienced Digital Court Reporters to join our contractor network. This is an independent contractor opportunity offering flexible, assignment-based work with the potential for approximately 15–40 hours per week, depending on availability and the volume of assignments in your area.

We are also open to working with individuals who are interested in or newer to digital court reporting and may need additional guidance or support getting started.

Assignments may include courtroom coverage, depositions, hybrid proceedings, digital recording, and related post-production or transcript support. When you are not scheduled for an in-person assignment, additional remote opportunities may be available based on business needs and your availability.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, is comfortable with technology, and wants flexibility while providing professional support in legal and courtroom environments.

What You May Be Doing

Depending on the assignment, contractors may:

• Provide professional and courteous support to judges, attorneys, clients, court personnel, and other participants.
• Support hybrid trials and other proceedings by monitoring digital audio/video equipment and ensuring systems remain operational throughout the proceeding.
• Participate in testing sessions with CourtScribes team members and trial technicians to confirm equipment and connections are working properly before proceedings begin.
• Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and break down basic audio and digital recording equipment in courtroom and legal settings.
• Communicate with CourtScribes' remote trial operators and leadership regarding technical questions, issues, or assignment-related concerns.
• Digitally record depositions, hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings using audio and/or video technology.
• Provide live playback, and other documentation as needed for an assignment.
• Assist with post-production, research, transcription-related tasks, and other litigation support services when opportunities are available.
• Represent CourtScribes professionally when interacting with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and other legal professionals.
• Identify opportunities to educate clients about CourtScribes' digital reporting and litigation support services.

What We're Looking For

The ideal contractor will have:

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of college, vocational, or technical education in business administration, technology, legal studies, IT, or a related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• AAERT certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience with or a strong understanding of basic audio/video technology and equipment, including microphones, webcams, Zoom, conference room systems, and digital recording equipment.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Typing speed of approximately 50–70 WPM or higher.
• Current Delaware State Notary Public commission or willingness and ability to obtain one within 30 days.
• Ability to safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain focused during lengthy proceedings.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to maintain appropriate courtroom decorum.
• The ability to remain calm, troubleshoot problems, and think through solutions when unexpected technical issues arise.
• Comfort working independently while maintaining communication with the CourtScribes team when support is needed.
• Flexibility and adaptability when assignments or circumstances change.
• Knowledge of legal terminology, courtroom procedures, or the legal services industry is a plus.

Availability & Assignment Expectations

CourtScribes' assignments are scheduled based on client needs and contractor availability. Many courtroom assignments occur Monday–Friday during standard court hours, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., although assignments outside of these hours may occasionally be available.

Contractors are expected to:

• Communicate their availability accurately and keep commitments to accepted assignments.
• Arrive with sufficient time to prepare and test equipment before proceedings begin. For courtroom assignments, this may mean arriving approximately one hour before the scheduled proceeding.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for a courtroom or legal environment.
• Communicate promptly with CourtScribes regarding assignment questions, scheduling concerns, or technical issues.
• Maintain the confidentiality and professionalism expected when working with legal proceedings and client information.
