Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is hiring a Surgical PCU RN with ventilator care experience for a night shift assignment requiring a VA or Compact RN license.

Job Details

• Surgical PCU unit functioning as stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and trauma unit backup,
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am,
• Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4,
• Unit includes 2 beds for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level) requiring CPAP and BiPAP oxygen support,
• Uses ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach care, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML,
• Manages IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration),
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting to increase Patient Care Tech coverage,
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block,
• Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units,
• Epic charting system used,

Job Requirements

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state, in which case pending license may be accepted,
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required,
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds,
• Strong post-op patient care experience required,
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation skills required,
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care experience required,
• Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required,
• Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP required,
• Epic charting experience required,

Additional Information

• Provide stepdown-level care to post-surgical, bariatric, and trauma backup patients,
• Manage cardiac drips, respiratory support, and isolation precautions per unit protocols,
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's),
• First-time travelers considered with strong relevant experience,
• Local candidates accepted; radius rules apply based on distance from facility, affecting assignment eligibility and bill rate,
• Previous employees must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler; travelers who worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return under current policy,
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
