Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

This General Laborer role supports daily operations at a memorial park in Hanover, Virginia by performing outdoor grounds work, digging, filling, and general maintenance tasks. You will use shovels, hand and power tools, and light equipment such as small tractors and mowers to help maintain a respectful and well-kept environment. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with one Saturday per month as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor tasks including digging, filling, and basic grounds maintenance throughout the memorial park.
• Safely operate shovels, hand tools, and power tools to complete daily work assignments.
• Operate light equipment such as small tractors and zero-turn mowers to maintain grounds and landscaped areas.
• Back up trailers and hitches safely and accurately in tight or sensitive areas within the property.
• Assist with loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
• Support landscaping activities, including mowing, trimming, and general yard work.
• Work comfortably and respectfully within a cemetery environment, maintaining a professional and considerate demeanor at all times.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete daily tasks efficiently and on schedule.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of general labor experience in an outdoor, construction, landscaping, or similar environment.
• Experience operating light equipment such as zero-turn mowers, small tractors, or similar machinery.
• Proven ability to safely use hand tools and power tools for digging, cutting, and general maintenance tasks.
• Experience backing up trailers and working with hitches in a safe and controlled manner.
• Experience with loading and unloading materials, equipment, or trailers.
• Knowledge in landscaping, yard work, or yard jockey duties.
• Comfort working in a cemetery environment and maintaining a respectful attitude.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
• Reliable transportation and ability to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., plus one Saturday per month.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior landscaping experience, including mowing, trimming, and general grounds maintenance.
• Experience as a yard jockey or in a role involving frequent movement of trailers or equipment.
• Familiarity with tractor operation and basic equipment maintenance.
• Strong attention to safety and willingness to follow all site-specific procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Hanover,VA.
