Duties & Responsibilities Inspects and tests machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions. Dismantles and reassembles defective machines and equipment. Installs new or repaired parts. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. Installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components. Assembles, installs, and/or repairs pipe systems and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Installs machinery and equipment. Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools. Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. Records repairs made and costs. Estimates costs of repairs. Responds to repairs for emergency firefighting equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. Ability to repair machines or systems using the needed tools. Knowledge of performing routine maintenance and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Ability to troubleshoot by determining the cause of operating errors and deciding what to do about them. Knowledge of determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Knowledge of conducting tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected. Ability to inspect and evaluate the quality of products. Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment or systems. Knowledge of watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine operation. Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repairs, and maintenance. Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications. Preferred Qualifications Experience operating lawn mowing equipment, power tools, and plumbing equipment. Agreeable to working a flex schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays; extended hours and on‑call may also be required. Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, electrical, or mechanical equipment; or vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or a building trade can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
