This position will facilitate our Southwest Virginia Child Development Clinic.This position provides comprehensive psychological care including: clinical interviewing, psychological evaluation, testing, treatment development, and collaborative feedback. Characteristics include: conducting individual assessment services, care review and staffing; serving on interdisciplinary teams; planning, directing, integrating, and coordinating of psychological services and activities; and developing and monitoring quality assurance programs. May serve as a consultant to other Psychologists, counselors, social workers, medical staff, instructors, and administrators on client treatment and/or diagnosis.• Performs psychological assessments for developmentally disabled or at-risk children, including cognitive assessment, developmental assessment, and assessment of emotional/behavioral functioning• Prepares client-centered recommendations for treatment based on assessment results• Prepares written reports summarizing assessments, results, and interpretations• Employs ethical principles in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information (CCPHP1B8)• Incorporates strategies for interacting with persons from diverse backgrounds; responds to diverse needs that are the result of cultural differences (CCPHP4B1 & CCPHP4B4)• Communicates in writing and orally, in person, and through electronic means with culturally sensitive linguistics and proficiency (CCPHP3B2)• Conducts thorough record review; analyzes and integrates testing results; writes final report• Summarizes findings for caregivers in a feedback session at end of appointment; makes appropriate preliminary psychological diagnoses and recommendations at time of staffing and feedback session• Consults with external specialists when concern arises that is outside scope of practice• Conducts or assists with team staffing• Participates in all interpretive interviews with families and other agencies (Schools, mental health providers, DSS, therapeutic foster care providers, etc.)• Assists the team in formulating appropriate treatment and case management plans for clients• Offers in-person interpretive interviews following receipt of reports, as requested by caregiver and/or referring party• Completes informal outcome measure at end of appointment with all cases to help support customer relations and promote CDC excellence• Establishes and maintains close working relationships with community agencies, mental health providers, primary care doctors, schools, Head Start programs, Court, and other community agencies to best meet the needs of children with special needs in a medically underserved area• Attends relevant meetings within the community and works closely with agencies, teams, and committees as needed and to support the vision and advancement of the CDC• Attendance will help increase awareness of CDC evaluations and populations served• Provides consultation and/or trainings for psychology interns and students within the community for contribution to the field• Obtains necessary external trainings to advance skills and expertise• Must maintain licensure requirements• Works closely with insurance providers and panels to get evaluations reimbursed• Completes all pre-authorization forms, peer reviews with MCOs, and spends time educating insurance providers on the multidisciplinary team evaluations process to ensure payment for services• Does not implement testing or services that are deemed medically unnecessary for the client• Determines evaluation needs with consideration of insurance requirements and expectations of psychological evaluations• Works closely with billing clerk and OSS to make sure all information provided is accurate and reflects diagnoses and services provided• Does not complete billing sheets until time of completion of report as proof of service• May be required to perform other duties as assigned; may be required to assist in the event of an emergency declarationThis is a restricted position which is solely funded by the Child Development Clinic for a one-year period ending September 30th each year. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.
