In-House Registry Nurse‑Specialty (Nursing Float Pool) Job number: 00139181 Job Summary The In‑House Registry Nurse‑Specialty is a professional care worker who is responsible and accountable for providing safe, effective individualized nursing care to critically ill patients and supportive care to significant others. The role requires assessment of patient needs, implementing care plans, evaluating outcomes, and documenting all interventions. Typical Duties Identify, plan, and care for patients considering age‑specific needs. Perform assessments and collect data on biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, educational, and discharge planning factors. Formulate individualized care plans based on assessed needs. Implement care in a safe, skillful manner per standards. Evaluate effectiveness of care and revise interventions. Document assessments, treatments, medications, procedures, and outcomes. Develop and implement educational services/programs for patients. Make timely decisions in crises or emergencies. Perform or direct cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities. Operate necessary equipment safely for patient care. Communicate effectively with staff and patients. Provide guidance and coordination of patient care to junior staff. Apply knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures. Demonstrate awareness of patient/family rights and ethical/legal issues. Participate in staff orientation and development activities. Maintain BLS/ACLS certification. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois (License required). At least 2 years of recent nursing experience in one or more of: critical care (trauma, burn, ICU, etc.), emergency department, perioperative services, infusion clinic, hemodialysis, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, labor & delivery, pediatric ICU, neonatal ICU. Current ACLS certification (required). Valid driver’s license or other transportation means for moderate travel. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Experience reading and interpreting EKG strips. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Current Emergency Communications Registered Nurse (ECRN) certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Use of medical/surgical equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication. Math skills for medication calculations. Application of nursing process and technical skills. Decision‑making under pressure. Clear vision and hearing (with correction if needed). Rapid physical/mental coordination. Attention to detail, accuracy, and precision. Safe use of equipment and understanding of equipment rationale. Proficiency in nursing documentation and reports. Commitment to professional growth and competency maintenance. Physical and Environmental Demands The role demands adherence to hospital safety protocols, including PPE use, hand hygiene, and technology safety. Veteran Preference Preference is given to honorably discharged veterans with at least 6 months of continuous service.
