SENIOR TECHNICAL SYSTEMS SPECIALIST

INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT: INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT (IWMD) is an organization dedicated to meeting the solid waste disposal needs of Orange County through efficient operations, sound environmental practices, strategic planning, innovation and technology. IWMD operates 3 active landfills, 4 household hazardous waste collection centers, monitors 21 closed landfills, and administers municipal solid waste collection, recycling, and planning for County unincorporated areas.

POSITION INFORMATION

IWMD desires to lead the way in the solid waste industry with innovative technology. IWMD Information Systems (IS) has implemented a state-of-the-art, Microsoft 2003 Active Directory, Wide Area Network, supporting highly automated landfill operations and business practices. IWMD Information Systems continually strives to maximize the use of existing computer resources while implementing new technology to streamline processes, reduce costs and improve customer service. The responsible stewardship of information technology strengthens IWMD's competitive advantage and helps to achieve IWMD business goals. In this challenging role, reporting to the Information Systems Manager, the Senior Technical Systems Specialist will have the opportunity to: Serve as the Wide Area Network Engineer/Administrator Be responsible for LAN/WAN administration, operations, maintenance and future network design/development Install and maintain network connecting equipment including routers, switches and hubs Administer a comprehensive anti-virus solution to protect the network system Utilize network management tools and troubleshoot network problems Supervise two staff providing end-user computer support to over 160 users

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Thorough understanding of PC, LAN and WAN Technologies with experience as a Wide Area Network/Administrator supporting Cisco equipment at multiple locations. Exeprience as a Storage Area Netwrok (SAN) engineer with strong skills working on block level SANs, fiber channel and iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface). Strong knowledge of Windows XP, Server 2003 R2, Office 2003, Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Microsoft Group Policy Objects, AutoCAD, SQL 2000 and IIS. Customer service orientation with demonstrated success in managing technical staff and projects in complex environments. A self-starter with strong leadership skills. Strong supervisory and project management skills. Excellent organization and verbal and written communication skills.i> The self-motivation to be able to effectively manage multiple priorities while striving to achieve business goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Education: Five years of progressively responsible experience in network systems administration and successful completion of 24 units of college level or equivalent course work which indicates the candidate has a sound conceptual understanding of most technical systems concepts. Ability to: Organize and coordinate sophisticated network systems in a complex, dynamic environment Multi-task assignments Develop creative solutions and ideas Lead a team of network specialists Communicate effectively Develop project plans Manage resources effectively
