Salary Range: $140,000 – $180,000 annually (DOE) Industry: Electrical Contracting / Commercial Construction About the Role We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of a growing electrical contractor focused on commercial construction projects. This individual will serve as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing all accounting functions while providing accurate financial reporting, job cost analysis, and cash flow management to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong construction accounting background with expertise in job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, cost-to-complete forecasting, GAAP financial reporting, payroll, and management of accounts receivable and accounts payable. Success in this position will be measured by: Accurate and timely monthly financial reporting Reliable cost-to-complete forecasting and WIP reporting Effective management of AR, AP, payroll, and cash flow Strong internal controls and audit readiness Timely and accurate project financial analysis Compliance with GAAP and company financial policies Key Performance Objectives Within the first 6 months, the Controller will: Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain strong accounting controls and financial reporting processes. Job Costing & Cost-to-Complete Reporting Produce accurate monthly WIP reports and cost-to-complete projections. Partner with project management teams to identify risks, forecast project outcomes, and improve profitability visibility. Accounts Receivable & Collections Oversee AR management and collections efforts. Improve cash conversion cycles and reduce outstanding receivables. Accounts Payable Management Ensure timely processing of vendor payments while maintaining strong cash management practices. Monitor subcontractor compliance and payment documentation. Payroll Administration Oversee payroll processing and related reporting. Ensure accurate and timely payroll administration for field and office personnel. Cash Flow Management Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts. Provide ownership and leadership with actionable financial insights and recommendations. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing. Prepare monthly WIP schedules and cost-to-complete projections. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes. Partner with project managers to monitor project financial performance and profitability. Maintain and improve accounting systems, internal controls, and reporting procedures. Coordinate year-end reviews and audits with external CPA firms. Support executive leadership with financial analysis and strategic planning initiatives. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader within the construction industry. Strong experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and cost-to-complete forecasting. Thorough understanding of GAAP financial reporting. Experience managing payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions. Proven ability to manage cash flow forecasting and financial planning. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience. Strong communication and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience in electrical contracting or specialty subcontracting environments. Experience with construction accounting software and ERP systems. Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities. CPA designation preferred but not required. Experience supporting ownership teams and operational leaders in a growing construction company.
