Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.
Qualifications

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Allied Health (AAH)
• Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: H.S. Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect information regarding chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation.
• Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities.
• Gather and maintain patient information via telephone according to department policies and procedures.
• Perform patient check-in and check-out activities.
• Complete prior authorizations with insurance companies.
• Schedule appointments and verify insurance benefits.
• Coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing.
• Perform office procedures and department-specific administrative duties.
• Assist with urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal as directed by a provider.
• Read negative TB skin test results and refer potential positive results to nursing staff.
• Perform point-of-care diagnostic testing.
• Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
• Provide condition-specific patient education materials as directed by providers.
• Administer medications and immunizations per provider orders.
• Assist with prescription medication refills according to department protocols.
• Call prescriptions into pharmacies and notify patients of refills.
• Document actions and patient interactions within the EMR.
• Maintain competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
• Obtain vital signs for patients of all ages.
• Set up and assist with medical procedures as directed.
• Perform hearing and vision screenings for patients of all ages.
• Stock and maintain supplies in exam rooms.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
