Site Lead

JOB SUMMARY:

The Site Lead is responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in overall leadership, safety, operational performance, and quality of a malting, roasting, and grain elevator facility. This role provides direction to production teams while ensuring compliance with food safety, regulatory, environmental, and company standards.

The Site Lead drives a culture of safety, operational excellence, continuous improvement, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction. The position oversees all aspects of site performance, including grain receiving, storage, cleaning, malting, roasting, packaging, shipping, and inventory management.

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

Safety Leadership

• Champion a safety-first culture throughout the facility.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, food safety, and company safety requirements.
• Assist in safety training, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
• Monitor key safety performance indicators and drive continuous improvement.

Operations Management

• Direct daily operations across grain elevator, malting, roasting, packaging, warehousing, and shipping functions.
• Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.
• Optimize labor, equipment utilization, and production capacity.
• Monitor operational metrics including throughput, yields, downtime, efficiencies, and costs.
• Coordinate planning and execution of production requirements to meet customer expectations.

Food Safety and Quality

• Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, SQF and customer-specific requirements as applicable.
• Maintain a strong food safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all ingredients meet customer specifications and quality standards.
• Lead readiness efforts for internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
• Address quality concerns and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Leadership and Employee Development

• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance work environment.
• Support employee engagement and retention initiatives.
• Promote effective communication across all departments and shifts.

Maintenance and Reliability

• Partner with maintenance to ensure effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Drive reliability improvements and reductions in downtime.
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all facility assets.

Inventory and Supply Chain Management

• Oversee grain receiving, storage, inventory management, and product movement.
• Ensure inventory accuracy and proper grain handling practices.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.
• Utilize data and metrics to drive decision-making and performance improvement.

Other

• Adhere to all government and company safety, sanitation and GMP policies and regulations. Adhere to Food Safety, Quality and SQF Codes.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience in manufacturing, food processing, grain handling, malting, roasting, milling, brewing ingredients, or agricultural processing experience.
• Progressive leadership experience managing supervisors and production teams.
• Experience leading food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs.
• Strong understanding of grain handling, storage, malting, roasting, and food ingredient manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, GMP, and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
• Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing reporting systems.
