Technical Project Manager III

The Technical Project Manager III leads and executes complex projects that significantly impact organizational goals, managing multiple high-priority initiatives and coordinating cross-functional teams for successful outcomes. This role emphasizes strategic project results and long-term objectives, driving strategic initiatives and fostering continuous improvement. With strong technical expertise, the manager partners with engineering and development teams to identify and assess technical risks and collaborate on technology decisions. They are actively involved in system architecture discussions, IT policy development, code reviews, and technical feasibility assessments, ensuring comprehensive project execution. This role reports to the Manager of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) Project Management Office (PMO) in Information Services (IS), managing medium to large complex projects while utilizing the PMO's established project management methodology and standard project management tools and templates.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field required.
• Seven (7) years of relevant experience with progressively increasing responsibility of which at least four (4) years must be in project management OR comparable roles.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred. Eligibility required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Scope and Complexity: Lead complex projects with budgets up to $500K, managing high-priority tasks and cross-functional teams for significant organizational impact.
• Strategic Decision Making and Planning: Exercise authority in planning, execution, and resource management, collaborating with leadership to translate strategic initiatives into detailed project plans focused on achieving strategic outcomes.
• Analysis: Translate business processes into technical solutions, leading analysts in requirement gathering and traceability.
• Stakeholder Interaction and Communication: Engage with senior leadership and external partners to align objectives with organizational goals.
• Project Leadership: Direct project teams, fostering excellence and continuous improvement.
• Quality and Risk Management: Implement quality assurance best practices and strategies for process optimization while expertly identifying, analyzing, and managing risks to ensure project success.
• Vendor Management: Lead vendor selection and implementation for medium to large projects.
• Mentorship and Development: Mentor project teams, promoting professional growth and a culture of excellence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Extensive experience in project management with a proven track record of success.
• Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on strategic thinking and innovation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Advanced proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, including scheduling solutions.
• Ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and drive change.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong competence with IT concepts including application development and support, networking, system integration, and information security.
• Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Proven experienced in formal project management methodologies, including waterfall, spiral, agile, lean, DMAIC, etc.
• Skilled in written and verbal communications with staff and management who have varying levels of technical aptitude, bridging the gap between business constituents and technical IT resources, and influencing decisions
