Sr Financial Counselor- New Orleans

Overview At Ochsner, whether you work with patients every day or support those who do, you are making a difference and that matters. This job is responsible for assisting patients for all billing inquiries across the organization in a face-to-face arena. Responsibilities include reviewing all aspects of the patient’s bill, collecting liability for upcoming procedures, collecting residual and past-due balances, reviewing alternate options for benefit coverage for medical and pharmaceutical services, securing authorizations, setting up fee arrangements, and backfilling for coverage at other locations. This role handles more complicated, in-depth, and escalated inquiries/issues, provides estimates for services, coordinates special projects, processes adjustments, and corrects payments posted. The role is expected to be the expert for departmental processes and procedures and to provide coaching and training to staff. The goal is to ensure the best patient experience through timely and accurate assistance. Education Required : High School diploma or equivalent Preferred : Bachelors’ degree Work Experience Required : 2 years of customer service, healthcare, or office experience Preferred : 1 year in a healthcare business office Collections/Customer Service Experience Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint Bilingual Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally Proficient with Windows-style applications and role-specific software Strong interpersonal skills Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment Remain calm and professional in high-pressure patient financial conversations Organize and prioritize to meet deadlines Work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions Provide coaching and constructive feedback Demonstrated problem solving, attention to detail, and robust follow-up Ability to work independently and as part of a team Other related duties as required Reliable transportation may be required to travel to other facilities Job Duties Promptly and courteously assist and provide accurate information to patients regarding their accounts or services face-to-face, via email, fax, mail, or phone Act as liaison between patient, providers, external departments, to ensure charges are applied properly, records are maintained, and account balances are resolved Educate patients on financial responsibility and available assistance options; explain the financial impact of alternatives Ensure appropriate authorizations are obtained and accurate estimates for upcoming procedures are provided Provide best-in-class service to patient inquiries to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction; represent the organization with professionalism Coordinate with clinical staff on patient benefits, pricing, authorizations, denial reviews, appeals, and physician adjustments Assist supervisors with escalated inquiries and daily department operations Provide routine support with new hire and ongoing staff training Perform complex research of accounts before submitting adjustments Compliance and Equal Opportunity The employer maintains and complies with its Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including reporting of unethical or questionable behavior; patient/employee safety and privacy.
