Programme Associate - Climate Change
IUCN
Organisation: International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Location: North America Regional Office, Washington D.C., United States of America Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future and commute to the DC office. Reporting to: Senior Programme Coordinator Work percentage: 100% Grade: A3 Expected start date: 01 July 2026 Type of contract: Fixed-term (up to 24 months with possibility of renewal) Background The Climate Change and Energy Transition Team (CCETT) is a thematic programme of the IUCN Secretariat, within the IUCN Centre for Conservation Action that works under a mandate provided by IUCN membership with a focus on delivering key transformations in the conservation, restoration and management of ecosystems. CCETT works as a delocalized team across several IUCN duty stations with the majority of the staff divided between its Gland-based Headquarters, Bonn, and Washington D.C. office. The Programme Associate will support the Climate Change and Energy Transition Team implementing multiple global projects. Responsibilities include assisting with programme development, conducting research and analysis, reviewing and preparing technical documents and content, and preparing donor deliverables. The Programme Associate will also support the coordination of activities and reports between IUCN and partner offices. Responsibilities Support Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Adaptation/Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) initiatives. This involves collaborating with colleagues across Thematic Teams, Regions, Commissions, IUCN Members, and partners; supporting technical backstopping for project delivery, compiling reports, synthesizing information, tracking deliverables, and facilitating high-level meetings and workshops. Support efforts to strengthen evidence for policy and practice influence through research and analysis. This includes engaging with policy streams of UNFCCC, UNCBD, UNCCD, and other fora; interacting with stakeholders on selected policy discourses; planning and organizing workshops, events, and communications; and drafting and publishing issue briefs and technical papers. Assist in IUCN’s engagement with global network partnerships and support teams in representing IUCN, working groups, and organizing and presenting at events and webinars. Contribute to developing knowledge products on climate change adaptation and other sectoral areas, such as gender. This includes analysing large amounts of data following quantitative or qualitative methods to support the development of technical papers and outreach products, drawing on experiences and lessons from implementation processes. Support programme development and proposal responses by analysing donor priorities, identifying key internal and external stakeholders, and proposing potential interventions, while liaising with IUCN regional and country offices and Thematic Teams. Carry out any other relevant task as assigned by, and agreed with, the line manager. The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in an organization such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them, but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group. Being an international organization the institution reserves the right to reassign duty stations for any internationally recruited position, after consultation with staff members and taking into account their personal circumstances. Requirements Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future. 3-5 years relevant work experience in fields related to climate change specifically adaptation/ecosystem-based adaptation, ecosystem management, sustainable development, international development, and/or environmental science. A relevant university degree in a subject relevant to climate change, natural resources management, geography, international development, conservation science, environmental policy, etc. Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills including statistical analysis. Data visualization relevant to climate, adaptation, or environmental datasets is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience conducting research, evidence synthesis, and analytical writing, including drafting technical papers, policy briefs, reports, or knowledge products for expert and policy audiences. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong digital research and data management skills. Experience with analytical and visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, SPSS, STATA, GIS, or similar) is highly desirable. Strong organizational, administrative and reporting skills. Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs. Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas. Excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Excellent written and spoken English required. French and Portuguese desirable. Salary The gross annual salary for this position is between USD 67'727 and USD 84'659. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN. #J-18808-Ljbffr
