Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician Assistant

Coverage Dates

• Start Date: 11/16/2026
• Assignment Length: 16 weeks
• One position available

Schedule

• Monday Friday: 7a 3p
• Hourly shifts plus call coverage
• Weeknight Call: 5p 7a
• Weeknight call covers OR/floor at a 1:4 ratio
• Weekend Call: 7p Friday 7a Monday
• Minimum one weekend of call per month
• Weekend responsibilities include rounding on step-down units with surgeons for a half day or less, then carrying the pager
• No block schedules

Practice Setting

• Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Advanced Heart Failure
• Surgical setting
• Adult patient population
• EMR: Epic

Patient Volume

• Average Daily Census: 20
• Inpatient Volume: Approximately patients
• CABG Caseload: 5 8 per week
• Robotic Thoracic/Chest Cases: 4 6 per week
• Several open and TAVR valve cases performed each week

Support Staff

• Dedicated office PA
• Two RNs
• Strong Advanced Heart Failure team
• Works closely with surgeons and the Advanced Heart Failure team

Procedures & Responsibilities

• Endoscopic vein harvesting
• First assist
• CABG cases
• Robotic thoracic/chest cases
• Open valve cases
• TAVR valve cases
• Occasional LVAD placements
• Occasional Impella placements
• Inpatient and step-down unit rounding
• OR and floor call coverage

Requirements

• Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
• Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies required
• Active North Carolina license required
• DEA required
• Minimum Experience: Two years
• Epic experience required
• Endoscopic vein harvesting experience required
• Vaccinations required
