Cal State East Bay is recognized as a regionally engaged and globally oriented university with a strong commitment to academic innovation, student success, engaged and service learning, diversity, and sustainability.About the PositionThis position is temporary, part-time, 30 hours per week.Student Health and Counseling Services provides basic medical and mental health care to CSUEB students and promotes healthy living. We strive to assist students in attaining an optimal state of health, so they may achieve their academic and career goals. The Pharmacist-In-Charge performs general licensed pharmacist work and serves as the Pharmacist-in-Charge as defined and required by the California Board of Pharmacy. This position functions in accordance with CSU Executive Orders, SHCS policies and procedures, and relevant state and federal laws in proving pharmaceutical services and is responsible for the overall operations of the Pharmacy, including maintaining formularies. Under the general direction of the Director of Student Health Services, this position is responsible for administering the pharmacy in the Student Health Center, including performing professional pharmaceutical duties hiring, training and providing lead work direction to other licensed pharmacists and pharmacy support staff. This position may require occasional coverage at CSU East Bay's Concord campus.ResponsibilitiesProvide Pharmaceutical Services to CustomersMay compound and dispense medications.Provide information to students regarding proper use of medication and provide patient consultations.Consult with and advise clinicians on drug selection, dosage and administrationProvide up to date drug information on actions and side effects, availability, cost and possible alternate therapy.Maintain formularies, standard compendia on pharmaceuticals and references.Update drug and patient profiles.Collect payment for medication(s) as needed. Submit billing information electronically if applicable.Supervising and instructing pharmacy technicians, pharmacy helpers, clerks, students and volunteers in the processing and fulfillment of prescriptions.Facilitate sale of over the counter (OTC) meds.Coordinate process of appropriate medication disposal.Provide lead work direction to and instruct additional pharmacists, pharmacy technicians pharmacy helpers, clerks, etc. in the processing and fulfillment of prescriptions.Acquire, receive and maintain pharmaceuticals and supplies. Stock cabinet/supply of medication(s) to be dispensed by clinicians if needed.Assist with immunizations as requested.Perform Inventory ControlMaintain medications in the pharmacy formulary and keep pharmacy stocked appropriately.Research and recommend formulary changes as requested, when needed.Ensure expired medications are returned/disposed of appropriately.Stock and order appropriate immunizations, and manage vendor relationships.Maintain prescription records, controlled substances inventory, DEA inventory and all of other records of dispersion as needed to comply with campus, state, and/or federal requests.Inventory all medications stored outside of the pharmacy.Participates in the design, plan, coordination, implementation and supervision of selected pharmaceutical systems, such as distribution and clinical services, repack programs.Perform Administrative, Educational, and Technical TasksCoordinate the development of SHS Pharmacy policies and procedures complementary to the Student Health Service Drug Formularies.Supervise routine phases of the workday; helping to plan work schedules; assigning duties, training employees and evaluating performances.Participates in various committees, Health Center promotion event(s) and/or budget review activities.Minimum QualificationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in pharmacy from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) college of pharmacy program or other program recognized by the board as defined by the California State Board of Pharmacy. In addition to the experience of a Pharmacist I, the Pharmacist II must demonstrate sufficient experience to oversee the operations of a larger more complex pharmacy, serve as the Pharmacist-in-Charge, and provide work direction to other licensed pharmacists.Equivalent to three to five years of progressive operational and administrative experience working as a licensed pharmacist.License: Possess and maintain a valid pharmacist license as defined and required by the California State Board of Pharmacy. A copy of the license must be submitted at the time of filing or by the time of appointment and upon each renewal.KnowledgeIn addition to those of the Pharmacist I, possess a comprehensive knowledge of all state and federal laws pertaining to pharmacy operations and the requirements of serving as the Pharmacist-in-Charge.Thorough knowledge of pharmacy operations and administration; and campus budgetary processes in relation to the pharmacy.Working knowledge of human resource processes and procedures.AbilitiesIn addition to those of the Pharmacist I, ability to develop, implement, and communicate pharmacy policies, procedures and protocols, including those related to pharmacy security.Develop a quality assurance program and ensure ongoing compliance.Develop and implement a comprehensive pharmacy budget.Provide lead work direction to other licensed pharmacists, as well as pharmacy support staff.Required QualificationsExperience and working knowledge of automated pharmacy systems such as Propharm Pharmac software system.Working knowledge of a variety of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, internet as well as online calendaring and email.Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time sensitive deadlines.Ability to fill prescriptions.Ability to review patient profiles against prescriptions for potential drug interactions and allergies.Ability to evaluate written prescription orders to determine ingredients needed to ensure proper dosages.Ability to serve as a resource to practitioners and other medical support staff in the areas of pharmacology, drug combination, drug interaction and alternative drug therapies.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.Experience with electronic medical records systems.Previous experience delivering immunizations.Knowledge of Family PACT and Family PACT billing regulations.Ability to multitask and work independently.Ability to process point-of-sale transactions.Ability to initiate, establish and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.Must be able to perform work involving, but not limited to, lifting up to 25 pounds, carrying and maneuvering objects, reaching, bending, walking and standing for long periods.Ability and willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a high level of diplomacy and professionalism.Ability to run short distances in emergency situations.
