Residential HVAC Systems Installation Lead

Yellow Dog Plumbing, Heating & Cooling in Needham, MA is growing and investing in quality. We’re hiring a seasoned leader who can own residential HVAC installs from arrival to final commissioning — and who takes pride in a clean, code-compliant, manufacturer-perfect finish.

A Day in the Life

You arrive at a home in Needham or nearby Newton, Wellesley, Brookline, Weston, or surrounding communities. You walk the scope with the homeowner, stage materials, set protection, and align your crew. You install the system — furnace, air handler, heat pump, A/C, coil, or mini-split — with careful attention to details: refrigerant piping, evacuation, charging, condensate routing, venting, gas piping, electrical connections, controls, and airflow. You commission, verify operation, complete documentation, and leave the space spotless. You drive away knowing the install is something you’re proud to sign your name to.

What You’ll Do

• Lead residential HVAC replacements and new system installations end-to-end
• Install furnaces, air handlers, heat pumps, air conditioners, coils, mini-splits, and related components
• Guide and mentor apprentices and junior installers on best practices
• Review the scope, anticipate issues, and ensure code, manufacturer, and company standards are met
• Evacuate, charge, test, and commission systems; verify performance before leaving
• Communicate clearly with homeowners and keep projects organized, clean, and efficient
• Complete job documentation and share recommendations with the office
• Own the quality of the finished installation

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of residential HVAC installation experience leading full installs
• Deep knowledge of furnaces, A/C systems, heat pumps, air handlers, coils, mini-splits, and modern HVAC equipment
• Hands-on mastery of piping, evacuation, charging, drainage, venting, gas piping, electrical, controls, and commissioning
• Ability to read specs and follow manufacturer requirements and applicable codes
• Skill in identifying potential issues before they become problems
• Experience mentoring apprentices and communicating professionally with homeowners
• EPA 608 certification
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• A growth mindset — you’re always learning and improving

Bonus points: Background with heat pumps, mini-splits, high-efficiency furnaces, boilers, and modern controls. If you’ve handled both installation and service, we especially want to talk. Master HVAC Technicians will receive special consideration and may have additional opportunities.
