Maintenance Worker I - Landscaping

Job Summary The Maintenance Worker I – Landscaping position is generally responsible for performing a wide variety of general labor tasks, including landscape maintenance, pruning, cleaning, general repairs, painting and seasonal duties. This position will have an emphasis on landscape maintenance along with other duties as assigned. Job Duties Assist the in‑house Horticultural Specialist with tree and flower plantings, removal of invasive species, and removal of decaying trees or limbs. Complete landscaping activities (mowing, raking, planting, urban forestry, chipping, etc.). Operate heavy equipment. Maintain playground surfacing; remove garbage and dispose of it properly. Perform all seasonal work assignments (e.g., snow removal, salting, ice rink maintenance, etc.). Set up and tear down for programs and special events. Maintain all tools, equipment, and machinery as necessary. Inspect park furnishings and landscaping (walkways, parking lots, picnic tables, bleachers, grills, benches, backstops, etc.) and identify and repair or report any failures or hazards. Perform snow removal. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. High school diploma or equivalent. At least 1 to 3 years of relevant experience. Valid Illinois driver’s license. Must be able to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification upon hire. May be required to obtain a State of Illinois Turf & Pest Control operator’s license. Scheduling & Pay This is a full‑time, year‑round, hourly (non‑exempt) position working Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Must be available for required overtime, special events and weather‑related duties. The target hiring range is $24.91/hour–$27.09/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
