Infection Surveillance Officer - Mount Sinai Brooklyn - Full-time day

Job Description Investigates and documents possible infectious outbreaks and works with administration and the departments involved to correct the problem Qualifications Requirements Masters / BA/BS in Microbiology, Nursing, Public Health or other relevant field. An advanced degree is preferred. Working knowledge of Infectious Diseases spread and Microbiology is required. For nursing - New York State License in Nursing with current registration preferred 3-5 years of Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC). Good investigative skills. Ability to write, educate and work independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills Roles & Responsibilities Knowledge of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and professional healthcare association guidelines for the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Conducts surveillance for reporting to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and state and local agencies. Investigates and documents possible infectious disease outbreaks and works with administration and the departments involved to resolve and prevent future outbreaks. Assists in follow-up of exposures to infectious pathogens. Ensures that Infection Prevention and Control guidelines for all departments are current and appropriate. Prepares and conducts ongoing Infection Prevention and Control in-service education programs and presentations for all Departments. Participates in Infection Prevention and Control Committee meetings by presenting relevant infection prevention and control data collected throughout surveillance periods. Ensures Infection Prevention and Control Plans, Assessments, and Policies are complete and current. Serves as liaison to the Engineering team regarding Infection Prevention and Control issues as they pertain to construction and remediation projects. Serves as a member of the Hospital Emergency Management Committee and other relevant Committees to Infection Prevention. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide relevant patient care and education in assigned areas, based on physical, psychological, educational, safety, and other related criteria. Compensation Statement Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $87692.27 - $131538.4 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
