Scholarly Communications and Digital Initiatives Librarian The Clement C. Maxwell Library is open an average of 86 hours each week during the academic year. It is a busy, dynamic place with classrooms, academic and administrative offices throughout the building. The library serves all BSU students, faculty, staff, researchers from across the country and world, as well as the residents of the surrounding communities. This position provides expertise and leadership in digital initiatives and scholarly communications at Bridgewater State University. The librarian in this role supports the creation, curation, organization, and long‑term preservation of digital projects and collections, including Open Educational Resources (OER), Open Access (OA), and other digital publishing initiatives. Working collaboratively with campus partners, this role develops and advances digital and open‑access projects across the university and represents the library on campus and commonwealth committees on these topics. As part of a team of librarians who work cooperatively on projects and initiatives, the person in this position will also help to identify and implement new and emerging technologies that impact library services. The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000, dependent on experience and education. Responsibilities Collaborate with university departments, faculty, staff, and students to develop, promote, and integrate digital and scholarly projects. Work independently or with other librarians, as appropriate, to design and provide instruction, continuing education, online resources, and consultations related to scholarly communication and digital initiatives. Lead all aspects of the institutional repository including workflow development, project prioritization, ingest/harvest processes, metadata standards, policies and procedures, and assessment. Liaise with repository and digital content management system vendors. Collaborate with the Archives and Special Collections Librarian to make historical and archival materials available digitally in innovative, inclusive, and equitable ways, including participation in the creation of digital exhibits. Support with digitizing content from Archives & Special Collections when necessary, including helping with digitization requests from campus administration and alumni association. Supervise digitization projects when needed. Promote the digital repository to campus stakeholders, university alumni, and peer institutions. Provide guidance and expertise to university partners in relation to OER initiatives prioritized by BSU and our racial equity goals. Implement and maintain platforms and tools that support the creation and use of OER and open pedagogy. Serve as the library’s lead representative on the Bridgewater State University OER Advisory Council and the State Department of Higher Education Open and Low‑Cost Educational Resources Advisory Council (OLERAC). Identify, assess, and implement emerging technologies that enhance library services, especially in the areas of open research, digital publishing, digital content creation, digital humanities/scholarship, LLMs/big data projects, and other evolving content. Support an equitable educational and work environment, and work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Understand and promote how open access materials contribute to affordable, equitable, and accessible learning opportunities, digital inclusion, and student success. Keep abreast of emerging trends in scholarly communication and digital initiatives. Serve as a liaison to academic departments. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA‑accredited institution. Experience in an academic, large public, and/or special library, or in digital librarianship. Experience with institutional repositories or other digital asset management systems. Experience with a variety of metadata schema and file formats. Evidence of ability to successfully engage in professional activities and disciplinary scholarship to satisfy promotion and tenure requirements for the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) collective bargaining agreement. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Digital Commons and/or other repository platforms and digital asset management systems, utilizing best practices and standards. Two years of relevant experience in an academic or research library. Experience managing projects and understanding networking, including cloud‑based technology. Ability to collaborate and communicate across diverse teams, take in and reflect on feedback, and use feedback for the improvement of services and products. Ability to provide group instruction to students and colleagues in areas relevant to the position. Engagement in professional activities and discipline‑specific scholarship.
