The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) reports to the Plasma Center Manager and supports plasma center operations. About the Role The Medical Support Specialist works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Specialist is familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment and follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs, providing center‑level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS). Responsibilities Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self‑exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and review of Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE). Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including development of the Center Physician’s standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities. Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs on unacceptable findings or guidance regarding medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility. Support the HepatitisB and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees. Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required; refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents. Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs. Manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. Provide overall center support and maintenance of operational standards. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements. Licensing: Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned (LPN or LVN). Current CPR and AED certification. Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy. Complete FDA‑approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist. Two years in a clinical or hospital setting. Familiarity with plasma collection industry or manufacturing environment regulations. Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
